So i went to my local gunstore intent to buy a .38spl snubnose revolver, preferably S&W.

Anyways, on a impulse i bought a new S&W .357 mag N-frame for about the same price instead.Beautiful gun.

This is only my second S&W so im not too familiar with them...But its a model 520.Ive checked out some gun dealers and even looked on the S&W site and no 520???

I havent picked it up yet still got a few days left just wondering why the model number doesnt match up.

Hmm i must be missing something. It looks exactly like this.

"The new Smith & Wesson model 520 is an updated L-frame replacement for the well respected K-frame model 19 that is no longer in production. The 520 uses the time tested and rugged L-frame 7 shot chassis while maintaining the "look" of the K-frame revolver it replaces. Combining a carbon steel frame, titanium cylinder and high accuracy, long life 2 piece barrel, the 520 comes together in an extra strong, high reliability package that will provide the shooter with many years of trustworthy magnum service.

Model: 520
Caliber: .357MAG
Capacity: 7 Rounds
Barrel Length: 4"
Front Sight: HI-VIZ Front
Rear Sight: Adjustable
Grip: Wood Grips
Frame: Medium
Finish: Blue / Black
Overall Length: 8 7/8"
Material: Carbon Steel
Weight Empty: 37.9 oz."

Did this come out in 2006? Was it supposed to come out in 2006, but didn't until 2007? According to the advertisement, above, it's an L-frame. Otherwise, it looks as if it will be a fine handgun!

And to confuse things, the *original* 520 was indeed an N-frame .357 w/ fixed sights -- the only one of its kind. Mucho sought-aftero....

The 520 is the fixed-sights version of the 519.

I have a recent 620, which is the stainless version (and is on the S&W website). While not as popular as the fully lugged 586/686 they're great guns and can use most of the 586/686 accessories (important since a lot of accessory makers don't list the 520/620). I put a nice set of Kim Ahrends cocobolo L-Frame grips on mine. Enjoy.
