View Full Version : E.A.I. FAL RAFFLE for Matthew Corwin

10-19-2007, 11:00 AM
EAI (Entreprise Arms, Irwindale CA) believes in Corwin's innocence (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=72038), and is committed to defending the 2nd admendment rights of Californians. We are the only 07 Manufacturer of firearms to remain in CA, and our willingness to adapt to CA's 2A-hostile politics is rooted in the conviction that the front line for the preservation of the 2nd Admendment in the 21st century is here in the golden state.

To that end, we are contributing two items as prizes. The first will be a refinished, parkerized IMBEL FAL kit in excellent condition. The second is a CA-made, Type 03 EAI FAL receiver new in box. 100% of proceeds from this raffle will go to Corwin's defense.

When I first orginally talked to Kestryll and Wolfmansdad about this, we had wanted Wolfsmansdad to handle the funds because of his experience in doing so with the earlier donations. However, he will be occupied for the next several weeks and Corwin's lawyers (NRA CA lawyers Michels-Trutanich (http://www.trutanichmichel.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=10))need the money now.

Tickets are $10 each and each $10 contribution gets you another ticket. The Kit raffle ends Friday Nov. 2nd and the Receiver raffle ends Friday Nov. 16. Payments will be received via Paypal, Check, MO, and Cash. Checks, MO, and cash will be directly sent to Wolfmansdad or MT at end of raffle (please make checks, MO, out to "Matthew Corwin Defense Fund"). I cleared my own personal Paypal account out and will make it available solely for the raffle, but if someone can show me how to make a fundraising Paypal account I'd be grateful as this is my first time hosting a fundraiser. As with the checks, MO, cash, 100% will go to Corwin's defense.

Each donation will be confirmed with an email noting amount and name. A master list of each donor along with "chances" will be kept and a name drawn randomly at the end of each raffle. www.thehighroad.com will also be included in the raffle as our goal here is to raise as much money as possible for Corwin.

Build and magazine-fix labor cost, as well as reciprocal Kit or Receiver will be offered at a discounted cost to the winners of each prize. In the event the same person wins both the kit and the receiver, EAI will build, detail, and fix the rifle for free. EAI employees, representatives, not allowed to participate.

PS: Corwin's case in brief: Army MP, discharged honorably. Student President of East Los Angeles College at time of arrest. Owned several fixed-magazine off-list AR15 type rifles. Antis (or someone who just doesn't like him) saw pictures of him with rifles on Myspace and reported a guy possessing "illegal assault weapons" to the police. Search, seizure, and imprisonment followed. Bailed out for past year or so. First court date was about a month ago, the prosecutors didn't show. NRA lawyer's bill now approaching $40,000. About $25,000 has been raised, still need another $10,000 or so.

So just to be clear: There is actually two different raffles, and I should state which one I'm buying a ticket/tickets for? Or is it one raffle with two drawings?

10-19-2007, 7:18 PM
$10 sent. Would be more, but I'm broke.

10-20-2007, 4:44 AM
I will try to update each day on what came in. I will not be mentioning names (it's actually a good thing to post that you are sending money, because it shows solidarity to the antis who troll these boards, but that is a personal choice), but will mention ticket sales for the day.

as of today
1 - 20 tickets
1 - 1 ticket

all tickets until nov 2nd will be for the FAL Kit. When that one concludes, then the next will be for a FAL receiver.

I have worded the email address that way so that spammers cant use bots to pick it up.
I'm personally very impressed by the willingness of calguns members to aid their brother in need. If we can get this case thrown out then it will set a momentuous precedent for the future of CA-legal OLL guns in CA - and a stern admonition against jumping the gun and arresting citizens on the mere basis of perceptively sensational myspace pictures.

10-20-2007, 7:51 PM
I'm in for 3 tickets. Money sent via paypal.

10-20-2007, 8:35 PM
I bought 2 tickets. Very cool of you guys to do this.

10-21-2007, 12:04 PM
Put me down for 20 Tickets ($200 sent via pypal).

I hate to think of all of those attorney bills hitting Matt at the end.

Thanks for putting this together! You guys are AAA+++ in my book!

Thanks, Addax. Your compliment is appreciated.
Okay, Today's Count: 4:47PM

1 - 5 TIX
1 - 3 TIX
1 - 20 TIX

Once again, every SINGLE BIT OF SUPPORT is appreciated. Big, small - it's us working together as California Firearm Manufacturers, California Dealers, and California gun owners that sends the message strong.

Incidentally: Each time I post, these are NEW ticket holders. As of right now then we have 86 (eighty-six!) tix held.

10-21-2007, 10:25 PM
Money for tix sent. Good Luck

If I win either prize, please sell it and donate the proceeds to the defense fund.

10-21-2007, 10:37 PM
just curious why you are using paypal since they are anti-gun :chris:

10-22-2007, 9:11 AM
We are not using Paypal to sell guns. That is prohibited. Rather, we are accepting donations with it (all monies submitted should be considered donations, with absolutely no expectation of acquiring anything other than a nice warm fuzzy feeling of brotherhood). Furthermore, one might argue that appropriation of what the opposition is an effective form of struggle for that right - equivalent to, for instance, the reappropriation of discarded USGI brass cases and MG links by the NVA into shrapnel for their IEDs.

10-22-2007, 7:23 PM
I will take 5 via paypal. I use it to easily transfer of funds.

10-22-2007, 7:23 PM
just curious why you are using paypal since they are anti-gun :chris:

It makes it easier for people to donate. If I can't buy something either face to face or pay with pay pal there's no way I'm putting money in the mail. I'm just too lazy to go to the post office if I need a postal money order.

10-22-2007, 7:46 PM
when I first discussed this with kestryll it was decided that 2a and EAI rooms would be the most appropriate. however, you could always tell your friends and help Matt. -thanks, kev
Tic Counts have been updated in TC post above. One more needed to meet our goal of 20 for today!

I have a possibly stupid question.
If/when Matt wins this case, isn't he going to get reimbursed for his legal costs? If so, will these donations be given back to the Cause?

10-23-2007, 8:49 AM
Elenius, good question.
If he wins the case, (if I remember correctly) he can file in court against the prosecutors to have his costs reimbursed. Mind you, my legal experience is very limited - I was once involved in a car accident where I was the passenger and a lady ran a red, bashed us all over the road, and left me with nerve damage to right leg and a torn achilles tendon. It took me three years and two lawyers to get my medical bills and all of $2000. The whole time I was afraid that if I somehow lost Id be stuck with a $25,000 bill.

Whatever the outcome, these funds will not be kept by myself or EAI. Presumably, MT will either take the funds and place them into a holding account for future 2A cases (which I would prefer) or donate them to the NRA. I cannot donate to this current fund drive; personally, I am fine with my previous donations going directly to Matt's beer and buffalo wings fund in appreciation of his being the reluctant battleground for OLL rights in CA.

1 - 5x TIX

We met our goal last night of 20! Thank you CGMs. One of the strategies of lawyers is simple attrition. As legal costs mount, individuals feel increasing pressure to settle/take the plea bargain just to get it over with. By helping keep Matt in the fight, we ensure that the opposition cannot use its fiscal advantage to force a concession of our 2A rights.

10-23-2007, 4:29 PM
Just give them to Matt so he can finish his education.

Tix Update 5:07PM

1 - 2x TIX

By donating to this case, you are helping to ensure the legality of the OLL firearms that you own. Should Corwin lose this case, you may find yourself having to relinquish or weld shut your valuable rifles.

10-24-2007, 5:17 PM
Could you publish the running TOTAL of tickets instead of just the new ones?

10-24-2007, 6:18 PM
Total Tic Count is Now At 115. You can also get the same total by adding up all the tallied numbers in this thread.

Friends, as we head into the weekend this fine October, take some time to reflect upon the tools that help keep us safe. In the event of catastrophe or disaster, firearms allow us a measure of security that can often mean the difference between living in fear and living in confidence. Matt's case will set a precedent - whether positive or negative - for the rights of CA citizens to own OLL / CA-CONFIG rifles. Make no mistake, losing this case will mean that all of us will become potential defendants in the days to come. Please help by giving whatever you can. $10 won't even buy a box of ammo today - but it can sure help make sure that our right to shoot it tomorrow is secure.

OK the kit raffled ended yesterday.
Who won?

indeed, who won? On that note, did you guys even get my check?

11-03-2007, 7:02 PM
did I win?

11-04-2007, 1:50 AM
raffle ended 11.03.2007.

Checks sent in will be sent directly to TM.

Paypal funds will be sent directly to Wolfmansdad or whoever it is who is handling it. It is important that the receiver not have a business account to avoid fees.

As for the winner, tomorrow morning I am making taking the database of names and chances, then assigning a number to each chance. for instance, the first guy, say Abraham Al, bought 5 tickets. he will "own" #s 1,2,3,4,5. the next guy bought 2. he will "own" 6 and 7... and so on until all tickets have been assigned numbers.

then i will use the random number generator: http://www.mathgoodies.com/calculators/random_no_custom.html

to select a random number between the limits.

however, to make the process even more transparent, I'd like to ask for two volunteers to help out. to one person I will send the list of numbers and names; the other will select the random number. I will keep a copy of the number list as a veracity check.

on sunday night by 10pm i'd like the random # person to post the winning number. the list person will announce the winner, and i will confirm it.

how does that sound?

11-04-2007, 7:54 AM
As long as my number comes up, it sounds good to me:D

11-04-2007, 11:41 AM
Heh, for that you need to buy an extra 10 tickets. =P

So... any volunteers? If I don't get two people (no new members, please) by 4pm today I'm just going to do it myself as I am sick right now with a mild fever and I ought to go to bed before 8 tonight.

11-04-2007, 1:52 PM
I'll be one of the two if you didn't get any volunteers yet.

Everyone please don't hate me if I win ;)

Duenor please PM me

11-04-2007, 2:00 PM
Okay, PSS will be the number generator judge.
Need one more person to be the listholder. He will get the list first (no full names, just last name only). then tomorrow morning PSS will announce the winning number.

11-04-2007, 6:17 PM
Ill do it.

I'll PM you my email addy.

11-04-2007, 9:58 PM
PSS will be using the random number generator (http://www.mathgoodies.com/calculato...no_custom.html) to select a number monday night.

RP1 will hold the judge's copy of the list. he will receive it tonight.

I will hold the official copy for verification.

on monday Pss will announce the number. then RP1 will reveal the winner, and I will confirm using my list.

(EAI Irwindale, California, off the 210E on Irwindale Blvd)

11-04-2007, 10:46 PM
Alrighty then, I will select the winning number using the random number generator at 19:59 on monday the 5th and then immediately post the result here on this thread. Good luck to you all:) and thanks to Duenor for his generosity and also thanks to all the Calgunners who have kicked in for Matts defense. Matt if you're reading Calguns these days, I just wanna say God bless you Bro, hang in there.

11-05-2007, 6:59 PM
And the WINNER is..................................

Congrats to the winner and thanks again to Duenor :)

11-05-2007, 7:06 PM
Don't thank me, all I'm doing is providing the grunt work setting it up and such. EAI is the one paying for the prize. If anyone ought to be thanked its Corwin for being our dog in the fight (however understandably reluctant he might be)

Okay, RP1.. waiting on you. I'll confirm when you have announced.

11-05-2007, 7:41 PM
And the winner is T Arra. Congratulations!

11-06-2007, 7:29 AM
Confirmed. Arra, you have PM.
Thank you to all who participated - all 38 of you. Your generosity and your willingness to aid your brother in need is remarkable. I am proud to be a member her with such people.

and for those of you who didn't get in on time for this one... wait - there's another fundraiser coming up in a few days. More later - kev

11-06-2007, 4:39 PM
Thank you for putting this fund raiser together.

I am sure other law abiding members will need our help in the future for their legitimate cases and we should always do what we can to help our fellow Calguns members in trouble (who did not actually break the law)...

11-06-2007, 5:41 PM
In the upcoming fund raiser however, I'd like to know if someone knows of a way to make a new paypal account (I already have one). The knowledge that Paypal made a nice 3% off of us really galls me. Unfortuantely, for many people "no paypal" ends the moment of generosity and brotherhood right there.

11-08-2007, 1:32 PM
When/Where is the receiver raffle going on?

11-08-2007, 4:11 PM
Congratulations T Arra !

11-09-2007, 7:11 AM
I have to get Arra his kit (actually he's going to take advantage of EAI's winner build deal - EAI is going to build his rifle for $75). Once that is out of the way (should take about a week) then we'll start up the receiver fundraiser.
