I noticed on my ballot that Deputy Sheriff David Wong is running against Sheriff-for-life Michael Hennessey. I figure things in SF can't get any worse but do we know anything about Wong?

I found a thread over at CA CCW with more info:

Looks like Wong faces an uphill battle

Supervisor Matt Gonzalez was one of the Supes who put the SF Prop H on the ballot. Wong has endorsed Gonzalez for mayor (2003). Make of that what you will.

In short, he's a San Francisco Politician.

He sure isn't going to be a Sheriff Carona. He's not going to start issuing permits. That said, my inclination is that Sheriff Hennessey should be booted out, and the replacement can't be any worse.

Re: Wong endorsing Gonzales: This sounds like "outsider politics" to me. Wong is an outsider politician, and Gonzales may also be, which is why he didn't win for mayor, and why he did endorse Prop H (which actually had no support within the "insiders" of SF).

Reality: SF isn't going to start issuing permits unless they are forced to by the courts or by Sacramento. It will be the last city in this state to issue permits to plebeians.

the SFSD is more likely to issue you a heroine dealership permit than a CCW without connections.

oh wait...
