A Richmond community activist who has been lauded by city officials for his involvement in the tent city anti-violence movement was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony child molestation, authorities said.

Robert O. Brown, 61, was arrested by Richmond police in connection with a no-bail warrant in Santa Clara County, where the alleged victim lives, authorities said.

He is expected to be booked on suspicion of continual sexual abuse of a child under 14 with an enhancement charge of being more than 10 years older than the victim, police Lt. Mark Gagan said. Gagan would not provide details about the alleged victim.

Brown is involved in several community groups and is president of the Park Plaza neighborhood council, according to the city of Richmond's Web site.

He was a lead organizer in the tent city project in Richmond, in which several dozen residents have camped in parks to raise awareness of gun violence. The tents were pitched for six weeks last year and for several days starting last month.

Brown received a Martin Luther King Richmond Community Leadership Award from Mayor Gayle McLaughlin in January.

Apparently the kids weren't the only ones "pitching tents."

Well I am ok with people molesting children as long as there are no firearms involved....

Yeah, I don't think he got that part exactly right... Needs more emphasis on "for", apparently.

No, he used the wrong preposition in that sentence. Not "for", but "to"...
