Good luck... Brazil has incredibly strict firearms laws.

Well, I've been there seven times so I can speak from experience. you will not be able to legally buy a firearm there. If you pick one up illegally you will not be able to get it back into the US.

Knives are all over, usually in the hands of people who are trying to relieve you of your wallet. I've never seen a quality knife/weapons shop in Rio or Sao Paulo.

Stay off of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches at night, the lights don't go down to the water's edge and there are always touristas getting robbed there.

Something fun/unique. I brought back a bunch of knives and a machete from Syria that were pretty obviously made in China and were in and of themselves not that fancy. It's the fact that you can say "I got this in xxxxx" that makes it cool.

LOL, you are dating yourself, that's what they used to say to soldiers during R&R in Thailand. There is type od chlamydia among other STDs, that penicillin or anti-biotics won't do anything against.
But I like the way you think.:43:

A box of Montecristo #2s would be nice. Don't buy from some hustler on the street, go to a real cigar store.

I've heard that they have alot of parts from old USGI guns available over there, carbines especially. the guns themselves may be illigal but I believe parts are still ok?

Ask your buddies over there about what the laws are like, they can probably point you towards the fun (and legal) stuff

FYI:

I am married to a Brazillian and go at lease once a year.....

Citizens of Brazil are allowed to own guns under some cercumstances. With a collectors license they can own just about anything they want. Collectors are subject to checkups by the army who keeps records of collectors and their guns (they don't and should not trust the Police with the responsibility). Average citizens (under most situations) can own "non" military/police calibers. This basically means the can own .380acp, .32acp, .25acp, .22 & .38sp, 44 special, 32 sp, etc. They cannot own 9mm, 40s&w, 357Sig, 45acp, 10mm, etc. As far as rifles, since there is no legal hunting allowed (except by Indians) in Brazil, there is not much long gun ownership. Of course my friend on the Sao Paulo Swat team has everything under the sun. Police in Brazil's big cities actually need major fire power....as opposed to our average LE in the US. Oh one more thing....possession of more the 6? rounds of any unauthorized ammunition (ie. 45acp) is a crime in Brazil.

Sorry....one more thing....the "Favelas" or shanty towns that encircle Rio and Sao Paulo are filled with every type of gun on the planet and most of the "kids" have one. None legal. Stay Away...unless you have an escort by a "resident" or a not-so-small army to back you up.

I was in Rio de Janeiro in June. What a crazy place. That city rages all night long. There's great food for cheap, great music, amazing beaches, and the most beautiful women I've ever seen. When I was there looking for gun parts was probably the last thing on my mind.

A lot of Brazil gets a bad rep for what goes on in the slums, the favelas. If you stay in Copacabana, Ipanema, and the good parts of Lapa, and stay with people, you should be fine. Just watch out for the crazy drivers, and look out for girls who'll try to get you drunk or slip something in your drink in order to rob you blind, or, in the case of my roommate, want to marry you. In any case, you're sure to have a great time. I'm sure going to try to make it back there at some point in my life.
