7.62X45 was made in Czechoslavakia for the VZ52 or VZOR 52 semi-automatic rifle. It was made and used by the Czechs from 1952 through 1956. In 1957 due to Soviet influence these rifles were converted to, and new rifles produced in, 7.62x39 caliber. These were then known as the VZ52/57 or VZOR 52/57. Rifles in the Russian caliber were produced for only a short time before being replaced with the more modern VZ58 rifle.

Do any rifles that shoot this exist in the US? I'm curious about the history behind the caliber.

Yeah there are some of the VZ 52's out there somewhere. I have been contacted by quite a few people with the rifles. It was a SKS type rifle that the country used. Russia wanted all of thier territories to use the same ammo and some were converted to 7.62x39 then they just started making SKS's and abandond the VZ-52 all together. There was a bunch of guns and ammo sold at one time and that was all there is to my knowledge. I know of no compay making new commercial ammo. All of the ammo that I have seen for sale is in the same packaging with the same headstamps as what I have for sale. You can learn more if you Google VZ 52. Happy studies!

There is a VZ 52 for sale in a San Diego gun shop and range. I don't know what they are asking for it yet, as soon as I know I will post it here.

The shop owner is going to keep it for his collection.

There was also a VZ-52 posted here in the For Sale forum not too long ago. Not sure if it's still available or not.

Although the Czech ammo is very collectable, it is also the most corrosive stuff I have ever used. It actually starts to rust things up if you don't clean it immediatly after shooting at the range. The rifles slightly resemble an SKS of sorts. The Czechs were known for doing things differently.

add to a older thread.
contact buffalo arms for boxer loaded non corrosive ammo.

but be warned it is very pricey over $2.00 each.

and there are a couple ways to make your own brass...much cheeper than buying.
