I really wanna build me a little go fast gun. I love the look of the larue 12". Obviously I can't have one here.

Show me your legal 16's, so I can see if there's one I like, and can imitate in my own way, to get what I want with no charges.

Almost SBRs like these?

Close, but not pistols. I want something legal with a stock. Looking for pics of legal length rifle uppers on all different lowers.

This is research for the next project. As long as I'm here, ill Bide by the rules, but I know what I like the looks of.

I've been thinking about something similar for my next build.

I'm thinking something with a 15 inch free float rail, and a comp, maybe in .300 AAC, to simulate the SBR look.

Take a look at the rifle gallery forum. Lots of pictures.

Amen. That's how I come up with my ideas.

This is the closest you can get to almost SBR in CA with a stock.

14.5" midlength Noveske CHF barrel
Pinned Surefire FH556
KAC URX 3.1
Vltor Mur upper
JP full mass BCG
Geissele SSA
BAD-CASS
Vltor A5 H0 buffer
Springco Green spring

and other crap I haven't finished this build yet I have most of the important stuff most of this crap is over the top I bought every part individually.

I still need BUIS, Scout 300, and a Larue scout mount I usually use the thorntail mount on my 9" railed upper I just wanted to check placement before I took the picture.

You can have a one inch barrel if you want (not a good idea) on a rifle, provided you permanently attach a comp, flash hider, fake suuppressor whatever to make the barrel over

check out franklin arms OTHER weapons.. they dont have a traditional stock, they use a cheek weld thing.. but they are cali legal, DONT require bullet buttons (im 99 percent sure due to the AOW status) and when you watch the videos perform like a SBR

Still incomplete, mine has a 11.5" bbl with a 5.5" hider pinned on. Old style A1 CAR15.

Also; What's not to like about an AR pistol? I rest that tube on my chest and it's rock solid.

The noveske infidel length barrel with pinned kx3 is another option

What about making something that resembles an old MX177/CAR15 but with a flat top upper? They were the precursors to the M4 and look very similar except that they only had an 11.5" barrel with a long compensator on it. I don't know if anyone makes 4.5" compensators but if someone does then the XM177 looks would be a viable option.

With the 5.56/.223 round I really think anything under 16in. is somewhat ineffective. :hide:

5.5" there's almost an inch of overlap.

I went 14.5 on my AUGA3 to match the bullet drop reticle of my Eotech.

Cali sucks, I wish we could get these here like most other states can among other gun related things of course. I also like going as short as legally possible on barrel length with pinned on hider/break but would like to do a build that has this aesthetic look to it.

This is close with a 13.7" barrel and pinned piggy.

I don't understand why OP wants an "almost SBR" and then asks for 16" uppers?

Shouldn't you be looking at a 13.7" with pinned KX3 or 14.5" with some type of pinned muzzle device? A 16" would most likely still have a muzzle device, making it 17"+.

Anyway, here's pics of my 14.5" uppers with pinned comps/flash hiders.

I said 16 as that is so close to the minimum length. When I said 16 I meant measured from the tip to bolt face so I could get a look at what a just legal length upper looked like.

I saw a larue sbr's, and loved the look. Was wondering how close to that look I could get.

So if I go with a pistol build, can I put a 6 position tube, as long as I don't affix the stock. And do pistols need bullet buttons??

Magpul MOE stock
Magpul bad lever
lower with psa lpk
Moe grip
Aimpoint H-1 (2moa)

Probably within 4"~5" of that SBR.;)

I *believe* one would need a dedicated pistol tube since the rifle tube *could* accept a stock. Otherwise, why are they available for sale, usually at a premium?

Thanks. I sent it off to Marvin Pitts of nefarious arms to machine the rail flush with the upper and pin the MD he did an excellent job.
