What are you guys holding and using right now? I'm curious. My good buddy who owns a large gun store is really depleted on much of the common stuff and keeps yammering at me to sell him some of my cache. For the 223/5.56 and 7.62/308 he'll give me 250% of what I paid (at normal prices) and he can sell it for 400% of normal retail.

I stockpile so I have stuff on hand when I want to go shooting for a day or two, I admit it. I've been doing it for years. Accordingly, I've not had to purchase a thing since the madness began last summer. I presently have:

Plinking stuff:
3000 PMC .223 55 gr
1000 Federal .223 55 gr
1800 Federal 5.56 62 gr
1500 22lr
200 308 150 gr. American Eagle
400 7.62x51 147gr Winchester White Box
500 shells of 12 gauge Federal Game and Target load

Hunting stuff:

3 boxes Hornady SST 165gr 308
2 boxes Sellier & Bellot 180 gr 308
2 boxes Winchester Supreme 150 gr Ballistic Silvertip 308
2 Boxes Winchester Super X Soft Point 180 grain 308
2 Boxes Remington Core Lock 168 gr 308
1 Box Hornady SST 162 gr 7MM Rem Magnum
1 Box HSM 168 gr VLD 7MM Rem Magnum
1 Box Barnes SXT 180gr 7MM Rem Magnum
1 Box Sako Spearhead 175 gr 7MM Rem Magnum
200 Shells of Heavy Metal 12 Gauge Waterfowl
80 Shells Winchester 12 Gauge Super Pheasant
100 Shells Federal 12 Gauge Black Cloud

Match Ammo:

200 7.62x51 168gr Federal Gold Medal M1A loads
2 Boxes of 77 gr .223 Federal Gold Match

Personal Defense Ammo:

2 Boxes of Hornady 75gr .223 TAP
100 Shells of Winchester 12 Gauge 00 B'shot - US Military Contract

I am low on everything!
For my scar17 Ive got about 4 boxes of FGMM, 4 boxes of wolf, two boxes of WWB and half a box of 110gr hornaday TAP I forgot about.
Maybe 2-300 rounds of Wolf in 762x39. I also found two boxes of YUGO sitting arround (wooo)
300rds of Hornaday 55gr .223 steel practice ammo.
Hell, Im almost out of. 22lr!
I'm usually not a hoarded, but this would usually be about the point where I start to stock up again, but I am waiting out this current storm til I do. Well, save for maybe 22lr so I can at least keep the chops up somewhat.

I'm running low LOL.

Probably around 1.5k of .223 and 5.56 together.

just a few boxes above 1k of .45ACP

500 round box of 175 FGMM .308 and a couple boxes of 168 FGMM left.

1200 rounds of 12g 1k in bird shot and 200 in 0-0 buck

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 rounds of .510DTC............. too lazy to open the safe and check.

Garage has a few boxes of brass that I need to get around to load up since prices aren't good and LGS are just about empty.

My stash is low compaired to others :eek:Guess you might say I have stash envy :D

WOW!!!! That is just flat amazing. Now I feel strangely under equipped.

FYI, I have 4 adult kids that need to be fed ammo. 2 of them shoot 2,000 rounds per month, each. We have two DILLONs reloading several days a week. My youngest (age 15) also shoots lots of 9 and .22. She has a yearly membership at On Target. We are a gun family. (except the ex-wife...hahah)

They main problem these days is getting COMPONENTs for reloading. Serious problem but we have 30,000 primers in stock (the hardest component so far to get)...and we hope this Gun Frenzy will cool down soon. With both machines running and with proper preparation we can manufacture about 1700 rounds per hour if we get serious. (Dillon 1050 and a 550B with case feeder)

A lot of it is wooden crates, .308, .223. 5.56. 7.62X39. 9MM, .40, 45ACP, 10MM, 22 CCI (nothing but CCI)...other odd stuff....357SIG..etc..

Packed away mostly. The 9 and .45 gets reloaded and I always have enough components for 5K of each. Buy in bulk is the secret to saving money.

Russ...start reloading and you will never look back. Get a good DILLON machine; collect components and soon you will be making better ammo than you can buy. We need to be independent and have the ability to manufacture ammunition. Sure, the initial cost is something to consider, but well worth the money in the long run.

I'm impressed.

I have under 1k, probably about 3-400 rounds of 223, I think about 300 rounds of 5.56, and perhaps 200 rounds of 9mm.

I suppose questions worth asking might be this:

1) How long does ammo usually last, assuming stored under reasonably dry conditions? (what good is 40k rounds if you don't go through them before they start to go?)

and related:

2) How many rounds do you usually go through on an average day at the range?

I think the second question is especially pertinent, as I hear mentions of proposed rules to cap ammo purchases (proposed rules, or mostly anti-gun people shooting their mouth off, the whole let them keep the guns-just ban ammo crowd). People who have never fired a gun just don't understand why someone would want 1,000 rounds of ammo on hand, let alone 5,000. Some people hear that you have 1,000 rounds of ammo on hand, and it sounds like a monstrously huge number to them and you must be some sort of nut getting ready to take on the gubbermint.

Ammo lasts a long time. I have shot lots of 20+ year old ammo.

If a guy shoots once a week @ 150 rounds each outing that's 7500 rounds a year. If he shoots with his wife that's 15000 rounds. If they have kids... A couple thousand rounds is nothing.

I find it interesting that a board in which the members usually bawk at anything resembling big brother would post their ammo counts. Especially with pending legislation, some of which targets ammo sales.

We know they frequent these boards, as we were asked not to openly comment on possible loopholes in any pending legislation for it might give them the opportunity to close them. So if they come here, and they do, they can use this info like "well see we need to close online ammo sales off in the state because from one sample group we have people with 15 thousand rounds of assault 5.56 child killer ammo, which is dangerous and pointles and needs to be stopped."

I am paraphrasing, but I am willing to bet that is around what their comment would be.

Big brother paranoia aside, we have 2 threads about gun thefts on or near the front page. In a climate of financial hardships and the increasing cost of ammo, as well as the demand for it, ammo 'stockpiles' would be goldmines for many thiefs. Guys posting they have 10k rounds of .223, 5k of .308 and the like should think twice. It amounts to: "I have $20,000 in a wooden crate in my house with no serial number, no way to track, and there is a huge market for it right now. Yeah you could sell it all in one day for cash."

Yes, the likelihood of them tracking you down and getting at it is slim, but why broadcast the info? It is beyond basic to get any of your IPs. Yes, granted this doesn't give me your physical address or name right off the bat, but it makes that easier. Couple that with pictures you all post here, if you dont use a photo host like imgur that strips the metadata off the picture (which contains GPS coordinates of where it was taken), I simply find a picture you take of some new build you 'just got home' or a picture of your collection 'while it's all out of your safe' and I have the GPS of your house.

Please, before we see more threads like the two on the front page think about what you are putting into the public.

This is probably thinking into it way too much, but what do you have to gain from posting the info? Nothing.

EDIT: PS for those of you that think this is paranoia, one of you uses an iPhone 4S. You host pictures you took with it on photobucket without stipping the metadata. The pictures are of your rifles, in your home. Any location data therefore gives me the location of your home, and anything you posted in this thread or others.

The second generation of iPhone (known as the iPhone 3G) by Apple Inc. is also equipped with a GPS receiver and uses the receiver to geotag photographs taken with the device. Subsequent generations (the iPhone 3GS, 4 & 4S) also support this feature. The first generation iPhone is not equipped with GPS, and uses a service provided by Skyhook to triangulate and approximate the location at which a picture was taken - using nearby cellular-phone towers and WiFi hot-spot signal-strength data. The Skyhook service provides approximate GPS location information which is then added to the Exif data associated with the picture. Also mobile phones with the Android operating system as well as BlackBerry smartphones with a camera and built-in GPS or Bluetooth GPS add-ons can geotag images with the included camera application.

Either disable metadata on Photobucket, or use a more secure image host like imgur (based in SF) that strips this data from all pictures hosted, by default.

Here is some of the data his photo has stored on it, publicly. I stripped out anything identifiable, but you guys should see how detailed the data is:

This was in a few minutes of looking, with no effort, from someone with what I would consider having below stellar tech knowledge.

If you want to protect yourself, you might want to read this, (http://www.switched.com/2011/01/24/keep-your-photos-exif-geotag-data-safe/) and go from there.

This isn't meant to frighten anyone, I am hoping to educate before someone is effected by something they probably had no idea they were putting out there. In this day and age people's understanding of technology is not keeping up with the progression of it. I am willing to bet before this post many of you didn't know EXIF data existed, let alone what it contained.

TLDR: Please think twice about what you post, where you host, and what you divulge. It could mean less heartache for you, and less paper work for LEOs.

i tend to be a one hobby person, i shoot on average every 3 weeks. i take out 3-4 rifles and shoot a lot. so i get nervous if i shoot more than i buy. i have 3 mosins and about 2,000 rounds of some bulk and some good target ammo. i want to keep it at about 2,000 rounds. i have 1 sks and about 1,000 rounds. i have a M1A and about 800 rounds. as much fun as the M1A is to shoot i must not go crazy with the NATO 7.62. even if i must pay a buck a bullet i will not let the NATO get under 600 rounds. i have a mini 14 that is not really my rifle but i can do what i want with it and i have about 150 rounds of 223. i do not shoot the mine so 150 is ok. i have about 2,000 rounds of federal 22lr for my savage bull barrel bolt rifle. with ammo prices i am shooting the savage more. hope i can still get more 22lr bulk at WM.

Agreed. The only way anyone outside of my home will know my TRUE firearm/'ammo inventory is if I'm somehow forced into using them or I'm dead and it won't matter...

I figure I don't really have enough to truly tempt anyone. Even at today's prices, there's plenty of stuff in my house that would be worth more to steal.

And I don't post pictures that are geotagged. ;) Good tip, though, I'll bet plenty never considered that.

What ammo?....I don't shoot them, I keep them all nice and clean so I can get the most Cheddar from the State run Gun Buy-Backs.

I always find these "Tell me what you have" threads most interesting.

I am well stocked with a minimum of 1000rds per caliber. I lucked out and found 14,000+ rds of 5.45x39 AFTER the panic and got it all for pre panic prices. Still patting myself on the back on that one. :43:

Holy mother of god!!!! Damn homey.....much respect!!!!

I respect your right to own your ammo and weapons. I encourage it, but now that the Feds, state and local cops know what you have and may be scouring through their laws and rules, wonder how long you will keep it. I don't have anything near what you guys have, but what I have, intend to keep and use as I see fit. OP, I did a simple search of the internet, this is what the world sees.

I don't own any guns, they kill people you know. But my boss just bought 1.7 billion rounds of ammo, and also some MRAP's and drones. Thanks, by the way, for letting us know who has stocked up!

Was it you that walked into the gunshop and asked the clerk for just one .357 Magnum bullet?

Ha Ha. Just pulling your leg. However, LGS clerks do report getting similar telephone calls such as these from time to time. :hide:

1) How long does ammo usually last, assuming stored under reasonably dry conditions? (what good is 40k rounds if you don't go through them before they start to go?)

Don't worry, your heirs will be able to shoot it just fine long after you're dead.

I havent searched the furthest reaches of the garage, I'm sure there may be the odd brick laying in hiding, but I would love to get some sensibly priced .22 LR solid point ammo.
