I was looking at one of these at a local shop and it seems like a decent value ($199 for the 4x16-44 version). Should I go for it or put my money towards something else? Just planning on using it for target shooting.

Red Chinese junk.

For not-that-much more, you could get a Burris or a Nikon or some form of Leupold.

There scopes are o.k. I had one that came as a package on a Howa rifle and it did it's job but I agree with Bill. For a few dollars more you can get a Nikon. For under $300 you can get one of the best "low end" scopes I have ever had the pleasure of using. Nikon 4.5x14x40 Buckmaster side focus mildot.
