My first attempt using Google translate (Albanian -> English) gave this:

xhei adin haremi -> Jay Adina harem (http://translate.google.com/#sq/en/xhei%20adin%20haremi)

Someone named Jay Adina's harem?

Next I googled "xhei adin" (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22xhe+adin%22), and that was much more interesting:

So I think Xheladin Haremi was probably the soldier's name. It is an Albanian name from what google tells me.
The rest, I need to look a bit harder...

Pretty wild stuff:

Neat stuff.

I got a couple with Albanian cities and names on them.

the guys who carried these have got to be still around, it would be cool to find some of them to get the story on these sks

very cool, I love the history of it. I have something similar. I have a type 56 SKS that I'm thinking about selling that has the words. "ATAKA" carved into the front part of the stock, which through my very limited research I found it is a Russian word that means to strike or attack. does any one have any idea why that would be on a Chinese made, used in Albania rifle?
all I could think is they use another foreign language to motivate, like we have used the words "gung ho".
whose army was letting their soldiers carve these up anyway ?

here is 2 of my Type 56 Sino-Albanian trench art rifles...

Good question. I got a 2012 Century Type 56 with a song and band name carved on it (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=650694). In that thread, it was fairly convincingly determined that the trench art dated to 1984-1985. That was around the time of the Albanian dictator Enver Hoxha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enver_Hoxha)'s death, when the country was failing apart.

This "Xhe/Adin" SKS seems like it was from at least a few years later than that.

zartoon: Do me a favor - transcribe all the writing you can make out, including the fainter stuff.

I think you might have a rifle stock of real historic significance.

It does look like Xheladin is a not uncommon first name and Haremi is an Albanian surname, so maybe you are right. (E.g., an Albanian soccer player (http://int.soccerway.com/players/olti-haremi/228426/) named Haremi.)

Mine has a heart carved on it with a date.

Ok, another possibility is that "XHELADIN" may be a reference to a literary character of Albanian author named Mitrush Kuteli (http://www.albanianliterature.net/authors_classical/kuteli.html) (1907-1967) from his book "The Autumn of Xheladin Bey" (http://www.albanianliterature.net/authors_classical/kuteli_prose.html).

It's the Albanian version of soft porn - exactly the type of reading a soldier would enjoy.

I've been wrong now about four different times in this thread - sorry about that! The only thing definite is that Type 56s were used in Albania. (Which we knew already.)

"The Autumn of Xheladin Bey" (http://www.albanianliterature.net/authors_classical/kuteli_prose.html) (full text) is this really earthy tale that reads like some prepper fantasy of what life will be like in a post-SHTF world. Xheladin Bey ("bey" means land owner) has total control over his domain and basically treats the people that live there like farm animals, or worse. As he's gotten older, he's developed the small problem of having completely lost track of all the women he's had sex with. One day he's out about to take some young girl (think the Sicilian "thunderbolt" scene from "The Godfather") when he encounters the girl's mother who informs him, as she's beating the crap out of him, that the girl is his own daughter. He's carrying a rifle and a pistol, but the mother so overpowers him that he can't even take out one of the guns to shoot her. It's a pretty cool story.

The poetry (http://www.albanianliterature.net/authors_classical/kuteli_poetry.html), not so much:

The Muddy Albanian Soil

I love you, muddy Albanian soil,
I love you
Like a wolf loves the forest,
Like a wave loves a wave,
Like mud loves mud.

Up to my knees
I am into you,
For I was born
Like my Father,
Like my Grandfather,

I love you, muddy Albanian soil,
Up to my waist
And above it,
I am into you,
And I cannot stop
For I do not wish to.

For you bind me
And captivate me
With honey
And with wormwood.

For my Mother
And my Father
And my Ancestors
All perished

I love you, muddy Albanian soil,
And sweet,
Like death itself.
