CLP or Weapon Shield?

For general cleaning and maintenance which is better, CLP or Weapon Shield? The both seem to say they do the same thing, does anyone know how similar or different they are?

I think you mean the difference between breakfree and weapon shield? They're both CLP, aren't they.

Both seem to work great for me, but I prefer the smell or lack thereof of Weapon Shield.

Yeah, I'm talking about BreakFree. Funny, I always call it CLP and never associated that as the acronym for Cleaner, Lubricant and Protectant. So you are correct, they are both CLPs. I don't mind the smell of the non-aerosol Breakfree. I also have the free sample of Weapon Shield.

I haven't tried Weapon Shield so, I really have no opinion on it. I recently started carrying my 1911 in an inside the waistband holster and was horrified to find some surface rust starting (I sweat....a lot). My Hoppe's #9 just wasn't up to the job. I started using BreakFree CLP and I'm delighted to say that the rust is just a bad memory. The stuff really works.

One whiff of breakfree and I have fantasies about fondling ar-15's and topless fairies in the land of milk and honey.

I actually like the smell of the stuff now and get a woody when I smell it and instinctively reach for some ammo, magazines, and a pair of AR's and have fond memories of taking my weapon with me to the shower and cleaning myself and my weapon. :D

I think it would be good to make a can of air freshener with the smell of the stuff. For allot of us with fond memories of cleaning our weapons it will be instantaneious in creating a soothing and relaxing feeling that is more powerful than TWO Valium-SIX PACK of beer-and SIXTEEN OUNCE sirloin steak taken together while getting a BJ from the Mrs.:D

I think I will go get some and spray it about the house since today is a no range day.

If that other stuff is any good like breakfree then they really should add some smell to it.

Just curious though, is weapon shield mil-spec certified for use on the M-4/16? Is the military issuing it like the other CLP? I thought I read they were going away from CLP to another latest and greatest. I just hope it has that same beautiful smell.:p

I've been using breakfree for ~20 years or so and see no reason to try something new. On some weapons grease is required so I use that where it's suppose to go. On my target rifle's triggers I use just a plain old oil vice a CLP product. Breakfree has done good enough not to worry about changing now.

i've recently made the switch to weapon shield (coming from BF CLP) i like WS a whole lot better.

WS has not evaporated or slung off 2 of 1911's in a month and a half since i cleaned them. and both guns get used on a weekly basis.

WS labels it that it meets mil-l-63460d

it sounds weird but, weapon shield smells like the barracks at MCRD San Diego.

it smells like the mixture of clp, dial soap(is it still issued at boot camp? hahah) with a slight mellow under tone of boot polish:D

I used the weapon sheild, and now own 2 bottles of the stuff. The free sample got me going on it, now i'm sold on the stuff after using it on all my weapons. Great stuff!!

I use Breakfree for overall coverage, militec for the metal/metal contact bits, and Hoppes #9 for the bore.

I have nothing against the smell. But between the two smells, I'd rather have the non-smelling weaponshield. :D Its not like the lack of breakfree smell has me cleaning in a flowery room. I got hoppes #9 solvent, borefoam, slide glide and hoppes #9 oil (the best of the gun cleaning chemical smells in my opinion) to get me nice and high.
