Howdy Everyone. I had a couple of questions for the experts out there. I got Everything for my Cal AR. Everything went together easily. I was doing a function check and noticed that the charging handle has alot of play in it after pulling it to the rear. The bolt does not move forward either on its own. I have to press the bolt catch to get the bolt to move forward into place. What did I do wrong??? Any help is greatly appreciated.

All is well.

Remove the empty magazine from the lower and the bolt catch won't pop up.

If the rifle is unloaded it is normal for the bolt to stay to the rear. I don't know what you consider to be a lot of "play" in the charging handle. I am assuming you are talking about when you pull it back and before it returns to its locked position. Again, I would say some play is normal.

When I mean lots of play, I mean that the charging handle just hangs to the rear. But It seems that since the bolt inst moving forward that must be the key issue here. Thanks Guys.

Yes, when you release the bolt catch and the bolt moves forward the charging handle will fly forward at the same time.

Unless it's a Bullet Button or a featureless build, I would recomment not getting into a habbit of removing the empty mag ;)

Yes, when you release the bolt catch and the bolt moves forward the charging handle will fly forward at the same time.

But this is not recommended.
The proper method is to first push the charging handle forward and latch it into place before you release the bolt carrier.

I agree it is not a recommended method. I was just trying to explain in short that if his charging handle did indeed go forward his rifle is functioning.
