Can anyone help me out and tell me what they know about this gun. It is a Colt. I was told that it is a "Combat Elite" but the box that it comes in says "Elite Team". It has a polished blue finish slide and polished stainless frame. It has "Elite Team" with a triangle on the left side of the slide and "Combat Elite" on the right side of the slide.

Can anyone tell me about this gun and the value of it?

Thanks

In the late 1980s Colt made some 1911 pistols in limited quantities that used the term "Elite" to designate them. These were often two toned, with a stainless frame and blue slide. I believe that they may have been sold through the distributor Lew Horton. I know that they made the Gold Cup model in an Elite series, in .45, 9mm and .38 Super.

These guns are fairly rare. I have a .38 Super Gold Cup Elite that I bought about 1999 for $900 from the original owner, who never fired it. I have kept it in unfired condition. Once in awhile I will see one for sale, and the current value is $1500 or more. Here is mine:

I took a little more time and did some research on the Colt "Combat Elite". I looked in a reference book called the "Standard Catalog of Firearms" by Ned Schwing, and under the section on Colt found an entry with a picture of a two toned gun with blue slide and stainless frame. Here is what it said:

"Combat Elite - This is a specialized Government model that has a 5 inch barrel and adjustable Accro sights. It is chambered either in .45 ACP or .38 Super. It weighs 38 ounces and has an 8-round magazine for the .45 ACP and a 9-round magazine for the .38 Super. Finish can be either blue or matte stainless steel."

I also did a Google search on the term "Colt Combat Elite" and got a number of hits with good information. Here is one of the best, from a blog entry by a gunsmith who bought one:

I went to Gunbroker.com and ran a search on Colt Combat Elite. There is one currently for sale there, with a "buy it now" price of $1,450. Here is a link and a picture:
