The AG AW identification guide states that the CA statute spelled Steyr incorrectly (Steyer). It doesn't appear that this was ever corrected on the legislative side. Would this be defensible or just knit-picky?

Wouldnt that be funny. "Sorry, we are just following the law. Youve banned STEYERS, not STEYRS... can I have my rifle back now."

For something like that, I WOULD PUSH IT.

Very simple, they listed Steyer not Steyr. Harrot says, make and model.

That's what I was thinking. It's not like I can afford an AUG, but I'm just interested in how funny it would be to see a big court case production over spelling. Imagine the precedent it would set. :32:

Jeezus, I keep seeing more and more asininity regurgitated here from over a year ago.

That's playing triviality games. (Another one: "HK-91" vs. "HK91").

I note that the echo of Roberti-Roos 12276 list in regulatory code (11 CCR 5495) gets it right ("Steyr").

This ain't gonna be covered by Harrott, and judge'll just laugh it out. It doesn't even pass the smell test.

Next question that will come up again will be, "what if if I change the markings on the receiver?"

How do you pronounce Steyr?

It's pronounced "Sty"-"ur".

Good question, Bill. What if an HK94 was remarked to say 'MP5', even though it has a 16" barrel? Would that be o.k. since an MP5 is still a legitimate HK rifle?

Geez, you can't just go remarking something to get around the law.

[A Fed/State licensed manufacturer that takes an existing receiver and builds rifles from that might have a chance, but given it involves stuff the DOJ doesn't like, probably not.]

Only DOJ's Iggy, in combination with Evan's Gunsmithing/GBSales can do that (to backtrack due to Iggy's screwup approval-du-jour of named AWs).

I only brought it up because the guide pointed it very specifically in two places.
Plus asininity is my specialty.

It's cool man, we need a little asininity on this board. Is that a word?:smilielol5:

If bwiese said it, it is so.
