I would love to mount a russian kobra sight on my new 74, but there is not side rail. I know i can mount it, but i was looking at alot and there seem to be many different styles. Will they all work with a kobra or other side rail mount? any suggestions? Im open to ideas at this point

That's the rail for you. AFAIK, some rails have a slightly different "look" to them, but all have the same dovetail design.

why do you suggest that one sage? Id love to hear on why that one is better. BTW, ive seen TONS of variations in the style of the side rail; Are all mounts interchangable? Should i be concerned about buying a sight and it not clamping on?

FYI i plan on putting this on the side

As far as I can tell, the mounts all clamp to a dovetail of the same dimension. There's actually a bit of adjustment in the mounts.

I wouldn't consider it "better," I don't think there is a "better" for the side rail, though IIRC there are some cast ones, I'd rather have a more solid billet rail. It's just readily available. I got this specific rail: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1019

The Scope I bought from Kalinka fits this rail, the rail on Oaklander's AES-10 and the rails you find on the side of Saiga rifles. There are a few differences in how the rails look, but they were all the same where it mattered.
