Hey ya'll,

My zone opened this morning (C-4). I planned to put in alot of hiking like I have in years past. Well, this big hog of a buck had different ideas. I wasn't even 20 minutes in the field, when I saw this deer staring at me. I don't know how long he had been watching me. He was about 150# and was about 80 yds away.
This is my biggest yet and I have to confess; I didn't think that I would be able to make the shot once I saw him in the scope. My heart raced, mouth went dry, lump in my throat. It was like I was a kid again. :D

Hey man, congratulations. That is a fine animal, you gonna have it mounted. I sure as heck would. To think you were worried 2.5 inch groups @200yds wasn't good and you capped that sucker at 80 yds:p

LOL! I was at the local Fire Station getting my tag validated. I never saw the sign.

Thanks for the nice comments ya'll. I guess I got really lucky this year.
Best of luck to all the other hunters out there. :D

I might. Between work and 2 kids playing soccer, it's hard to calendar time to go.

I've hunted the last 3 years on some private property outside Paradise.
It's a few miles NE of Lime Saddle marina. Mainly resident deer on about 1000acres of private property.

Congrats!

Thanks Whitesmoke. Best of luck to you. This was my second blacktail, and my third year back hunting after a 12 year hiatus. Harvesting game is exciting, but any day in the woods is a good day to me!

yeah Metalhead, directly behind me about a mile as the crow flies is the feather river. (I am facing nearly due West in the pic)

If you know where Kunkle resevoir is, you are a 20 minute hike from where I hunt. As for hunting, PM me.

OMG SWEET area... IIRC that's about 5....6 miles from a friend of a friends ranch/property/do-nothing land we used to go blast squiirels on. I will CERTAINLY hit ya' up when I'm headed up next:D Thanks!

Well,
I finally got him scored: 170 4/8.
If I had been on the west side of I-5, he would be the new # 3 blacktail in Boone and Crockett. Since he's a hybrid or mule cross, I just get to brag about how big he is!

Very nice man. I gotta figure out how to hunt in this damn state... I'm heading to OK next month for some family land hunting, can't wait.

Btw get a camp fire, a dutch oven, 2 sticks of butter, a few big onions, and two packs of mushrooms. Cut up the onions add the mushroom in the dutch oven add butter. wait till the butter melts then add the back straps cut about 1/2" thick and let it slow cook it. Best dinner/breakfast ever. If you going to make it for breakfast add a few strips of bacon. serve it with some rolls or texas toast. It makes happy.
