It took me about an hour and a half into Deer season to shoot this buck. I
forgot my camera, so there are no pics of the whole deer, but skinned,
gutted, head and legs removed it weighed 74 pounds when I dropped it off at
the butcher. Whole it must of weighed 125+

One more thing, This was taking on public land. The spread was 14"

"Back there we field dress, cool it, leave the skin on then drop it off at the butcher. You all do it the same way around here?"

I think you're on your own here, but thats something I would like to know.

That's the way it's done here in Madera. Gus' has always been hunter friendly, no bears, but anything else you want.

A31 starts on the 22nd for me, and I have a D6 tag from up north. Hope to bring some meat back from one or the other...and a bear would be nice!

I've got a d3-5 tag as well, but not sure if I'll make it up or not... It's quite a drive and going up by myself would kinda suck, so it might be my second year in over 20 without getting a deer or moose :(

I'll be hunting D3-5, up north of Lake Oroville.

ARGUY15, lots of folks just field dress and take it to the butcher after validating the tag. It just depends on your preference. (aging or not)
I processed my own deer this year (first time) and it went well for me.
I also saved about $150 that I can use toward a new gun:30:

A great source for blacktail hunting info is:

Nice Buck! Love how Tall them antlers are!

B season for me; going late this year and hoping for weather; been too hot until real recent...hunting bud already took one but he's going too again with his second tag and our mutual hunting friend...... we'll see & wish us luck!

I went ahead and field dressed than skinned it and dropped it off at the butcher. Skinning it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Now I have to wait ten days for my jerky, salami, back strap, and ground meat to be picked up.

No. I did the old fashion slow way. I also did not use my truck to skin it as seen on youtube.com

Nice little buck. I got one a little smaller than that second day of B-6. I don't have any pics and now all i have left is the antlers.

Skinning it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

The sooner you do it the easier it comes off, I try to skin them as soon as I can.

I have always skinned them myself. I dropped mine off in OR to be cut up this year. Its strange because they take the tag but not the head. The guy said if anyone stops you just show them the receipt. Lucky for me the bug station (agricultural checkpoint or whatever) was closed and I didn't have to explain my dear head to anyone.

"Nice little buck. "

Little? I am insulted:)

Just joking. At first I was going after just a little fork buck, then I came across this and realized that this was going to be the best I could find. Hell, anything legal I was willing to shoot.
