Hello Calguns.net,

First post, and definitely not the last. I have found a good amount of information here so far, but I digress. So, I have been looking to purchase a firearm for quite sometime, researching here and there and have found that I would like to get an M&P for my first firearm.

I am hoping it is the timing at the moment, but it seems like all the gun shops in or around SF do not have the M&P in 9 or 40 at all. Although they have the compacts, the full sizes have sold... Do you guys know where else I can find one?

Shops I have made calls or visited so far:
Jackson Arms
City Arms (Pacifica)
Reed's (SJ)
Highbridge Arms

Side note, my other choice would be an FN9P (if i could get the FNS9 that would be awesome...but alas, it still doesn't seem to be going on the CA approved list of handguns anytime soon).

Anywho, I look forward to all your responses! thanks!

My friend and I have also been looking to get our first handguns, debating between the Glock 17 and M&P9... (haven't had a chance to shoot the M&P yet)
Looks like the M&P9 is out everywhere, and I can't even find one online. The guys at Jackson Arms didn't even bother to place an order for us. That applies to the Glock too. The demand is too high.
Please let me know if you are able to find one. Also, do you know any of the ranges around SF has rental M&P9 (not the 40) for me to try?
thanks

Jackson Arms has the M&P40 for rent from what I recall. I actually liked it a lot, though, the trigger may take some time to get used to. Its reset is...different to put it modestly. Nonetheless, I really liked it.

I regret not grabbing it when I saw them at the gun show. I still have not found an M&P9 to try. It may be best to try Reeds. They have a large variety compared to other shops/ranges I have visited near SF.

Got mine in Eureka(bout 5 hours north of SF) but the place is near dry. Said his distributors don't have anything left either.

try these guys, they had a full size .45 in stock for me a bit ago and those are harder to find then 9/40.

P.s. if you get a 40 for about 100-150 bucks you can buy a new 9mm barrel and have both 9/40.

Nor Cal Guy,

That is exactly the reason why I would want a 40 haha, read my mind. I heard both storm lake and s&w's stock 9mm barrels work.

During lunch, I called Bay Area Gun Vault and they are out. Only Compacts...

They had 1 40 and 6 9mm's left on wednesday when I called. I figured I just call again today to see how their sales went..

They only had 3 9mm's left. So I just bought one over the phone. $589 before taxes. Not the best price I guess, but I do not want to wait 4 months.

Not worth it, it's pretty easy to do yourself. Plenty of videos out there on how to do it. I'm not sure how that will affect your warranty, though.

Thanks for the referral btw. Ill be able to pick her up the week of the 13th. Fun fact, they also carry the APEX trigger (in stock at the moment). I really liked the store. Drive was not bad either.

Target Masters has a NEW M&P 9mm for a shocking $530...pretty cheap. I saw it yesterday and 2 hours ago. Happy Hunting.

yay got her in today and took her to the range for a quick shoot. Test shot was recorded 1/3/2013. I guess I got one of the newest ones. Btw, the trigger feels a lot better than the 40 I had shot before. Not gritty and unpredictable. This one actually had a distinct click that I could feel through my index.

Interesting side note, the slide lock release is really hard to engage. I had to use two thumbs before I took her out. After 100 rounds, I could do it with one thumb but it hurts lol. Either way, I like to reach over and rack then use the slide release...but this is..again, interesting. Saw a video on youtube that you can get some 600 grit sand paper to smooth out the edge of the slide lock mechanism. -

650 rounds through her. Magazines and slide release/lock are pretty broken in now. I can easily load rounds into the magazine without much thumb mashing. The slide lock also releases with ease with just one thumb.

I did not need to do the sandpaper solution.

No malfunctions so far.
