Ok, so this idea got stuck in my head recently. I have tens of thousands of rounds of ammo and even reloading supplies. But if, and I'm not saying it's likely, but if a real, long term melt down of society happened at some point even my ammo supply would run out. Then what? It's next to impossible to make the type of gunpower (smokeless powder) that we use today. I have books on making actual blackpowder and it's not that hard. Also I'm building a small forge so casting bullets would be no big deal.

So my thought is that I need some black powder solutions. But I would want the best rate of fire that I could achieve and that means revolvers. In my head I was picturing something like this ...

But I haven't been able to find anything. I found images of these...

and this...

I admit, this is kind of out there, but black powder guns are fairly cheap enough. I wouldn't mind having one or two as a back up solution.

I guess if you wanted to do it, but to be honest why not just go with the first design. I mean the classic design look sexy as hell and doesn't need "improvements".

just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it.

Caps would be a problem, how would you improvise ignition?

If we go a little further in the way back machine, we find flintlock firearms, even further gives you wheellocks. Wheellocks would be a little more reliable, but more fragile and complicated, and slower to load.

What the OP is really looking for is, a stainless steel flintlock blunderbuss with a synthetic stock. All ignition and propellant components could be improvised with natural materials, and no bullet molds or specific materials neccessary, the world is your ammo pouch.
If it fits, it shoots.

my dad was elk hunting with a modern day black powder gun, so if someone really wanted to go that direction there are options its not like your gonna have to buy a kentucky rifle

I have made Black Powder before. It seams easy, But it not as easy as you think, and it burns very dirty.

Also, If you do make this powder, Please remember that Black Powder is an Explosive. No Smoking.

You are right about the percussion caps. I have seen several threads on some DIY solutions. On thought that did occur to me is peizo electric. Not sure the spelling. It's like what they use on those new lighters. It makes an electric spark every time you press it. Could you use something like that as an igniter? I don't know, just spit balling here.

Is black powder conductive?

If not, and powder got between the electrodes(which is likely), it may actually insulate them from each other and you may not get ignition.
