Kokura Arsenal 21st series, right? Looks nice!

eckerph, the Crysanthamum is the emporer's symbol. While no written record exsists, there is quite a bit of anecdotal evidence from veterans on both side about removing the symbol for surrender. There is one story of a Japanese soldier being ordered to cancel the mum before he went on a Banzai charge and there are quite a few stories of both Japanese and American soldiers being ordered to grind off the mum after VJ-Day.
One that hasn't been touched usaully means that it was a battlefield pick-up or in at least a few cases, a recovered weapons cache in 1946 or 47. All methods were used to remove the mum; electric grinder, chisels, pinged out with a hammer, struck and hammered with a bayonet, hand files and even acid. It all adds to an interesting history.
Sorry to go off on a bit of historical rant there!

the Chrysanthemum is the mark of the emporer, so each and every firearm with the empirical seal states that the weapon is the emporer's property.

During surrender(or some cases, impending capture), when a weapon was handed over, the seals were destroyed in attempt to save face of surrender... Everyone knows it's not nice to give away something that doesn't belong to you :P

I received it just as pictured. What the previous owner did in regards to highlighting the details, I don't know. It's a niece piece and I need to get some ammunition for it.

Find the thread if it's recent. I don't think I've posted it there.
