If this is a dupe I'm sorry. I wanted to talk to the manager about it but I had my wife and little girl saying their hungry. Anyone addressed Best Buy about this?

Its their network - they can block whatever content they want. Whats the issue? Don't like it, use your providers network. Kind of a no brainer.

I haven't had a reason to set foot in Best Buy since I last worked there as a PC manager many years ago. Amazon gets you everything cheaper, faster, and with better service.

You probably know this, but NEVER buy a BBY warranty. Never.

Yeah I could've easily used my net provider, but why block CGN? I just got done looking through the games they sell and they have Cabellas hunt games, all the shoot em up games you can imagine. So if GAP takes an anti-gun stance you'll still shop there?

They aren't blocking Calguns specifically, they have a content filter in place that blocks almost all websites that contain "Weapons". We had the same thing where I work ( I implemented it as the IT Manager) We also block Gambling, Adult Content and "Hate" sites. It is standard in most corporate environments.

That said, Best Buy is on the way out as other have stated. The electronics market has changed and they cannot keep pace.

My friend who is a teacher at a high school told me a couple years ago that both my personal website / blog and my photography site are blocked by his school's content filter.

I'm going to deliver a new baby at Loma Linda Hospital near San Bernadino tomorrow. Being a 7th Day Adventist / Christian outfit? They have the same industry standard milquetoast free wireless...

No CGN, No hunting or guns stuff on the iPhone for a few days. It will be rough.

Then again, nothing like holding a new baby boy!!!

You could always set your DNS to a public server such as google's (not a plug for them in particular, just saying). I used to test this way at my sites (I'm a network admin) by using one machine with internal settings such as the hospital site, and then switch to IP 8.8.8.8 for DNS to test.

Video games, "weapon" sites, even other blocked sites would always work with public DNS settings in place.

I just installed parental controls for my new netgear router the other day & told it to block the very most basic: porn, etc. Tried to go to Calguns a little while later & it came up blocked too - DELETE DELETE

That's what I hear, to tell you the truth I haven't had a bad experience there but since I've been hearing they are going the way of the Dodo I used my gift cards the other day and bought me a nice 42" LED smart tv. :)

Eh, that doesnt really work when using filtering devices like a Barracuda or Trend ISWSVA...

Do tell?

I watched a guy try to bring back a cordless phone that broke. The Best Buy goons told him they can't help and to call some 800 number. The guy had his support contract in his hand and kept pointing to the part where it said to bring the broken device back to the store. They just kept telling him they changed their policy and to call the 800 number. He kept pointing out he had a signed contract in his hand. It got loud and ugly... Things like this stick in people's head so the next time you are asked if you'd like to buy the extended warranty your answer is "HELL NO! You wouldn't honor it if I did!"

Just buy your stuff at Costco and the warranty is just included and honored...

At least your Best Buy has Wi-Fi. I was just at Best Buy last night. Couldn't find a network at all. Saw a whole lot of different printers completely open though.

I used to go to Best Buy and thought Fry's was terrible. After buying some items at Fry's including a 46" LED tv 2yrs ago and got a big discount cause it was a demo model, I like Fry's much better. They are also well stocked too and dont give you a hassle if you need to bring something back.
No more Best Buy for me anymore!!

That's very common for corporate firewalls. It's mainly a liability issue and just like they block porn to keep from being sued for creating a hostile workplace they ban weapon sites and anything else that might create controversy/hostility at work.

You probably know this, but NEVER buy a BBY warranty. Never.

Why? After not buying the warranty the first time on a TV (and an expensive one at that) it took a poop and I was screwed. After that every lap top I have bought I have bought the warranty and had to use it. What am I missing here?

Best Buy matched Amazons prices for me the other day. I bought a Canon printer and a Hoover vacuum. I saved $57 in the store and all I had to do was show the Amazon prices to the cashier via my cell phone.

I have no issues with Best Buy and have had great chats with many of their employees in the past. I wouldn't look to hard into the blocked site though. I bet many companies block certain words and phrases.

Why not the warranty? To each their own, I'm not trying to oppress your opinion by any means, just curious?

Personally, I've had so many things in my household literally exchanged out same trip to the store under bb's warranty coverage over the years.... steam cleaner, cell phone, ipod docking station for the kids, vacuum cleaner (2x), gps, overhead car DVD player that was uninstalled and installed the new one for me while we went out for lunch... sent off a 22"dvd/TV combo that I had back in less than 2 weeks working perfectly, backed up data and swapped out a dead harddrive on Wife's laptop...man when I think back on it, I wouldnt buy those types of things w/o a warranty lol

I just won't go in a store for warranty support on a saturday, as i like my weekday's and their no lines!
