Oh yeah, you know it - I opted to start with the Tactical instead of purchasing an "already done" non-Tactical at IA because I want to learn what it's like to have the weapon before and after I send it out to Angus (maybe!) for some work. I also think I want to do it one thing at a time, so I can learn what each and every change does for me. I think - nothing is written in stone in my life, take 'er as she comes.

First 100rds: fresh out the of box, dry as a bone, almost a bit of rust: ugly shooting, it was a waste of ammo even with a bit of oil squirted in at the range.

Second 200rds: cleaned, scrubbed, oiled and lovingly spruced up: smooth like buttah shooting, this trigger is really smoothing out quickly and this flat recoil spring is *fantastic*, it's more of a 'tug' instead of a 'snap' on three different JHP (the ones shown below).

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w21/rivviepop/clyde_1024_2.jpg

The next one is with the handy guide that ccwguy here on calguns posted, I use it a lot and hand out photocopies at the range when I see some people struggling a lot.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w21/rivviepop/clyde_1024_1.jpg

(1024x768 is the largest photobucket.com allows uploaded, sorry)

One of the guys (employee) at the range is a CZ nut too, of course I let him shoot it -- poor guy, I think I saw a little drool in the corner of his big smile when he handed it back to me. :)

It looks like a sweet gun! I'd have one already, but the really curved CZ trigger also found in the PCR and RAMI doesn't work for me. That's why I'm down to just the 75B.

Interesting you mention that, it didn't even strike me to mention that -- I really like the new curved trigger. I guess it's the size of my hands in relation to the CZ family, but my trigger finger is always on the lower edge of the trigger; with my 75 BD I pinch my finger (more like squeeze it, not a hard pinch) between the end of the trigger and the guard, it's a bit annoying and I readjust my finger a lot upwards. With the 300rds on this SP-01 I never even noticed the same type of problem, my finger stays securely on that trigger and no pinch action is happening.

Nice. I've been looking into getting a CZ SP-01 as well. It seems like that would handle recoil really well. Maybe when I'm done with school...

...I guess. :) I lay out my mags and only load 5 per mag, using the binoculars to check my progress after each 5 shots and adjust accordingly to learn (working on 25m accuracy right now, what a chore!). Only when I'm on my last 50 or 100 rds do I load up to 10 and start doing some rapid fire at the 10m or 15m distance, rolling back to 7m to work on one-handed and single-offhand shooting with 5 round mags again at the end.

What did it cost you, if I may ask?

I paid $595 (plus all the tax/DROS/etc.), which is a bit under MSRP by about $20 or so I think. The supercheap web places have it for $525 that I've seen (if they have it, everyone is out of stock on the Tactical), I bought it over the counter from Krausewerk -- shop locally and support your local FFL. :)

Any chance you can post a pdf copy of the guide?

It came with the standard, generic 75 guide -- there isn't a special one (at least not in my box) for this model; functionally it's identical to a 75 BD (except for the rightside ambi-decocker knob). Not that I'm going to try it, but it looks like I could swap parts in and out between the two without any problems. (slidestop, grips, mags, etc.)

Any pistol sold via FFL here in CA has to come with 10rd mags - the CZ's ship with two in the box, extras are around $35 from any internet retailer. Buyer Beware: I purchased 2 'Pro Mags' aftermarket brand and hate them, they sit on the shelf gathering dust. They have a warranty, I'll be sending them back in dissatisfaction some day.

An interesting note: on my 75BD mags, up in the bottom of the plastic plug is a number '1' - both stock mags and an extra I purchased. On the SP-01 the number is a '3', including an extra I have for it. (think like where you would see the plastic recycling number on a bottle)

I can detect no functional difference between the 1 and 3 models inside or out, the only thing I can think of is that the springs might be different? They seem to feel the same, though, and they work interchangeably between weapons. Maybe the 1 vs. 3 is just a manufacturing run identifier...? There isn't the usual 3-arrows-in-triangle symbol around them to denote it's a recycling value, but who knows.

Look for a Colt new frontiier instead, single actions are exempt from the list and hold their value. Also I would get the Ruger Single Six or the High Standard 8 shot single action, before the heritage. The quality is better on the older guns. IMHO.

Krausewerk's in San Mateo - he's a stocking dealer, I didn't even have to order my SP-01 Tactical. Last I was there on the shelf was: 97B, 75B, RAMI, and a P-01 (customer's, demo only) besides my new baby.

Check your DROS, it likely was run as "CZ SP-01" not at the Tactical model. It's a similar situation like the SA operator with the full length rail (approved) vs the new half-length (not approved). It's silly.

Don't like the curvy trigger on Sp-01's, P-01's, rami's or other newer CZ-75 varients?

Just get an 85 trigger, it will drop right in and has an overtravel screw.
I would suggest getting a new trigger pin at the same time, sometimes the flair/swage on the end breaks off when you try to re-flare it.

Roger that, I'll check when I get home and see what it happens to say. Realistically there's nothing different except a spring, a decocker and some sights - I'm not too worried about it.

http://www.marschalgrips.com/files2/CZ_SP01-models/alder-gray-chek-light.jpg

http://www.marschalgrips.com/?content=CZ_SP01-models&picture=alder-gray-chek-light

I kinda like the look and they appear to be of good quality. I'm unsure though why they'd hollow the grips out to make them "light", is there a reason? $40 seems like a good deal for the quality of the grips they make, going by their gallery I bet they could charge $50 or $60 for them...

Stupid question:
I was always on the lookout for a SP-01 tactical and found a few specimens on this thread. Knowing that the Ca DOJ roster approves of the CZ 75 SP-01, does this include the tactical model? I haven't seen any of the tactical models (with decocker) inside the store display cases so I had doubts about ever getting one in California. Every time I ask a gun store clerk I can't get a clear answer from them.

Not a stupid question! I see this in a lot of threads, and the more experienced forum members who know the law tell us that the item is *specific* in it's very nature, not to be loosely interpreted, even if the variation in the model is trivial such as this weapon. It leads to confusion of course, but if the model is specifically not on the roster it's not allowed to be sold. Your SP-01 Tactical will need to come to you via PPT, intrafamilial transfer and so forth, technically it's not on the roster because the word "Tactical" is not present.

It's a bit of a grey area because the SKU number isn't on the chart like other models, 01152 is the SP-01 and 01153 is the SP-01 Tactical. If your local shop is friendly, ask them to call the DOJ (or whomever) and get the exact SKU of the allowed item. I might do that as well just for my own knowledge, since I think the info the shops can look up on their special computer have more detail than what we see on that webpage.

Mike,

That is the CZ75b Tactical model which you have. It is the "true" Tactical, one of a limited edition run of only 1K units (sorry, not collectible) from a few years ago. It predates the SP-01 and the Tactical Sport models. There's another difference between what you have and other CZ75b's, the wording of the caliber on the slide. The Tactical says 9mm Para while the other CZ75's say 9mm Luger.

Cool, thanks for the info (even if it's not mine :) ) - I started to do a little bit of Googling on that and was coming up empty but then got pulled away for some work, you know how it is.

Any chance you have a webpage link about this model? I don't even see it anywhere on czub.cz of cz-usa.com, you'd think they'd at least have a page like for the 30th Anniv. edition and whatnot.

somebody sold one here a few months ago with extra mags and stuff for 4 bills. I hesitated..oh well.

I forgot about the 9mm para designator too. At any rate, it's one of my favorites. It just shoots and shoots. I do want to get a real action job on it though since that is the only thing I can fault with it.

This run of a 1000 two-tones were supposed to come with a kershaw knife with a "CZ" logo, but I'm quite sure, since I bought mine from Turners, that the knife promptly went in one of their pockets.

At $398 (2005), I should have thought about buying another one. The regular black one wasn't on sale..seems that the green put some buyers off as Turners discounted these on 3 separate sales. Color aside, the rubber grips as a freebie are a major plus. I would not have another 75b without the factory rubber grips.

So what's the difference between the SP-01 and the SP-01 Tactical?
As far as I can tell, the tactical has a decocking lever and the regular SP-01 has the normal safety for cocked/locked carry.

If that's the case, I think I prefer the regular SP-01.
What I really want is an SP-01 frame with a tactical sport trigger and slide.
That would be the sheet. :D

The P-01 is a shorter grip, it uses the same magazines as the 75 Compact/etc. and holds fewer rounds (if you have a >10 mag). The "normal" 75 mags fit in the SP-01, the grip is near the same (can't say that it's *exact*, but seems the same). The SP-01 is a lot heavier; the barrel wall (??) is also thicker, the P-01 is thinner walled to make it a tad lighter.

Gee. I thought I was the only one who had a fetish for Nills Grips.

Thanks to everyone who posted pics so far. I really appreciate it. I just ordered mine today. There's still some confusion about the baseplates for the mags. That isn't a funnel. It really is a baseplate. I can't imagine why the 10 rounders (bases) wouldn't fit the hi-cap mags. In any event, I use Beretta Plastic baseplates on my CZ P-01's. Maybe those of you who have either version of the pistol can answer that question for us. What did your gun come with...Thin or Thick, and what capacity are your magazines? Great pictures guys...Thank you....Monsterface

Just picked up my SP-01. Fantastic pistol when it comes to the ergonomics. Can't wait to shoot it!
