Hey San Diego,

Join us at Iron Sights shooting range (618 Airport Rd., Oceanside) on Wednesday 1/30/13 at 6.30 pm for the first North County meet of 2013. We’re excited to team up with Iron Sights and they have allowed us the use of their lounge/classroom to use as a meet ‘n greet ‘n eat area for the evening. I will be there with some men's/women's Calguns gear (all sales support CGSSA.org) and there will be food (pizza). This is your opportunity to shoot with your fellow Calgunners!

The fine print:
There is limited parking along the side and back of the range. Don’t park in the neighbors’ spots. There is a dirt lot across the street from the range, and parking is OK there.

Range fees are $14 for the first shooter, and $8 for add’l (more reason to pair up with another Calgunner if you’re solo- split the cost). You can shoot as long as you want until they close (10 pm). They have a huge variety of rentals available including .22s all the way up to a Wilson CQB and Nighthawk GRP, and several shotguns and rifles. The range abides by the “buddy rule” so if you plan to rent a gun, make sure you bring another person to shoot with you, or your firearm with you (which takes the place of bringing a friend).

*If you've never been to Iron Sights you'll need to purchase a shooting card for $2. This is a one time fee for new-to-the-range shooters.

Pistols- no holsters, no rapid fire
Rifles- up to 30-06 is ok
Shotgun- Bird, Buck and Slugs ok only if lead shot
Ammo- no steel core, steel plated, steel case, tracer, armor piercing or Wolf brand. They will check your ammo when you come in.

REMINDER: When you're there, your actions represent the entire Calguns community. We should always take responsibility for our actions, and treat their facility with the utmost respect. We also need to leave the meeting room as clean as we found it.

Iron Sights doesn’t allow reservations, so shooters will be getting lanes as they become available if there’s a wait. Please respond to this thread if you’re attending. Guests are welcome, but we are limited to 20 shooters.

I see a lot of people on the SD roll call, so come out on Wednesday and put some faces to those screen names! Hope to see you there!

Darren

If you can't make it to this one because of the distance, I've got a couple others in the works...

Anybody is welcome to come- you don't have to be there at 6.30. I'll probably be hanging out for a while with the CGN gear for people that can't make it until later, and the lounge/classroom will be open to Calgunners all night (just remember to clean up after yourselves).

If I'm off work in time I'll make it to this.
Thursday's is when they shoot the matches there though.

I would join you guys but getting from San Diego proper to Oceanside during midweek rush hour traffic is daunting at the time specified. If you've ever dealt with the 805/5 merge at rush hour you know what I'm talking about.

Hopefully will make next meetup if somewhere more central or not during rush hour.

I would as I'm right around the corner, but I'll probably be working in Arizona that week.

My husband is a Calgunner and would love to go to this! He's away on business but I'll email him so he can post in this thread....he shoots at Iron Sights all the time.

I would go since I just got my first gun (yay!!) but I just had foot surgery (boo!) so I don't want to take a lane from someone else...I know how crowded Iron Sights can get!

No excuses!!! Come and shoot and hang out with your fellow Calgunners. Take your mind off your foot at least :D

I am in south San Diego, but I will try to make it. Are there any plans in the future for a meet and greet in southern part of SD county?

Yes, there are. We are limited on the location of indoor ranges/winter time/daylight hours. That being said, I am a member at SBRG and we are working on a meet there.

Great idea, but probably can't make it up there in time for this event given the craptastic traffic at that time of the day.

Noobie me will be in attendance! I look forward to meeting the community. I've never shot my own .22 this should be interesting :)

Thanks for the response. For the people that don't want to deal with the traffic, I get that. I'm driving up from PB. I'll be hanging out probably until 7.30ish with swag and then I'll be on the range, so come get yours! If not, we'll be hosting other events in other areas of the county.

i'd LOVE to join. unfortunately iron sights is a bit out of the way for me. normally i go to P2K. i live in san diego between national city and paradise hills so a trip to iron sights is a bit extreme for my shooting needs... when y'all plan one down south here post again and i'll GLADLY come to meet some fellow calgunners!

If I can get some ammo to shoot I might make it. This crap is ridiculous.

I'd love to make it but I'll be working late that night :(

Ammo- no steel core, steel plated, steel case, tracer, armor piercing or Wolf brand. They will check your ammo when you come in.

Just a heads up that they also have some other, not so clear, restrictions on ammo. For instance they wouldn't let me shoot my 45 grain WWB .223. IIRC she told me 55 grain was the lightest .223 they allowed. Still a great range and should be a fun time

I get that. I am working on a monthly shoot at P2k and ASC. Join the group when you can.

What are you shooting? I only have .308 and .45, but the range also has stuff for sale. Come out and meet some others that may be shooting your gear. Thanks Roland for the heads up on the .223. You guys probably can't kill mice with less than 55g anyway!

Probably true which is why I horde 75g for defense/zombie killing ;). That said paper dies easily so I, as most people do, prefer to shoot whatever I can get for cheap for target practice :P

ASC is right by my work so I'd be more likely to make a weekday meet there than Iron Sights (even though I live in Esco...). I'll watch this forum more often :)

Thanks for setting this up.

I should be getting there a bit early to beat traffic and set up, so feel free to stop in before 6.30 if it's easier for your commute. I'll be working on getting some food delivered, no doubt.

Thanks to everyone who came made it out to the first of the monthly meets at Iron Sights. We had a couple of surprised Calgunners "drop in" at the meet, so apparently I need to do some work on publicizing the events in the future.

It was good to meet some of the new members and some of the regulars. I got involved in a few side discussions and wasn't able to join everyone out on the range, but I did take a few poor photos late in the evening. Sorry- guns over cameras for me everytime.

The highlights for me was obviously not taking pictures; rather, they were what it usually is during Calguns meets. I got to shoot two guns for the first time, and one was a WWII issued .45! You're not going to be doing that too often. That and I didn't get blown up by 30 year old ammo being tested by Speedrrracer.

Look forward to seeing more San Diego Calgunners at future events!

Great to meet some of the CalGuns peeps! Thanks to hoss_hk for all the work setting it up -- looking forward to future ones!

Also -- wanted to volunteer for the March 9 Del Mar gun show, but don't see a thread. Is CalGuns skipping that gun show?
