Item 3 of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor's Jan. 8th agenda will ask the Board to approve the creation of a task force to possibly recommend developing new and revising existing laws and regulation on firearms and ammunition.

Submitted by the supervisor for the second district, part of item 3 reads, "...to convene a task force ... to identify and recommend strategies aimed at reducing incidents of gun violence in Los Angeles County, including ... Recommendations to the Board on the development of and revisions to existing laws and regulations governing the sale, purchase, transfer and possession of firearms and ammunition;"

January 8th Agenda (http://bos.lacounty.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=lrdZR9R6yL4%3d&tabid=114) includes the recommendation (see page 6) along with the date, time, and location of the meeting.

I smell another SF style preemption lawsuit.

How much is preempted by state law? What could they actually do, at their worst, at this level?

funny. this morning, channel 2 news aired a report regarding the increase in gun sales and the decrease of gun related violence/deaths in Los Angeles.

most legislators have no idea what to do...so they rely on emotion NOT fact...so they pass the buck by forming "Committees" or "Commissions"...

they will NEVER recognize the fact that we have a societal BEHAVIORAL problem, NOT a gun control program...it's not in a legislators belief system to concede they are WRONG...

Here's the wiki article on preemption -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/State_Preemption_of_Some_Gun_Regulation

Chicago?

But we have some state preemption, unlike Il..

There are some things Chicago has done that would be struck down in CA over preemption. The question is what could they do that would stand preemption. At the very least licensing and registration of firearms is preempted. As well as possession in one's own home or private business iirc.

I think other aspects of preemption exist, in a less clear way. But IANAL.

It appears that they are already using the "bb gun" law's exception to pre-emption as their "precedent" and are now pushing full speed toward their real goal.
