The turners in westco had at least 100 and they are nice. They look unissued or at least really well rearsenelled if i had the money i would have bought one today.

Don't believe all the crap talking about the Yugo 59/66 SKS. They are big, heavy, mean looking, and shoot great! I would avoid corrosive ammo in them, but they will eat cheap surplus steel case ammo all day long.

Is this a good deal because everything else is crazy expensive/inflated prices? or is it just a good deal period?

To me that's a little on the high end (399$) you might be able to find them on gunbroker for below or at 300. Personally, I bought a pristine Chinese sks (with spike bayont) from a gal from NY about 8 years ago for $150. The gal really took care of her gun. Now I think they're about 200 bucks. You'll be very lucky to find anything below that.

According to the pictures on the ad they are definitely M59/66.The likelihood of Turners or anyone else ever getting a bunch of unissued PAP M59's is zero. The grenade launcher apparatus will be there but it will be covered by a spot welded metal sleeve.

I'd call it "OK." If you don't have one and they are in fact unissued go for it. You might have to do a little footwork to get ammo cheap these days.

I decided on SKS over AR because of the Kalifornistan bullet buttons, 10 round mag limit and it's lack of evil features. Yugo on strippers was readily available then, the SKS has a rep for combat brick reliability, and it shoots a proper caliber, not a varmint round.:reddevil:

Love my yugo!! I bought mine unissued at big 5 several years ago. I havent had a single failure over several thousand rounds. If SHTF I'm reaching right over my AR and grabbing my Yugo because I know it'll go bang every time.

was at the FV store this morning. line formed before the store opened. those Yugos are NICE, much nicer shape than the Chinese ones that they had before. For $460 OTD it just seems a *little* more than I would be willing to pay, but that's just me and I already have an SKS. If it was $400 OTD I would have bought one on the spot. They're really nice ones. No gren launcher apparatus.

Sold out in Norwalk

Bobby Ricigliano

OK Here is the deal on the Turners SKS:

I was just at the West Covina store and they had about 12-15 available with at least that many already sold with paperwork stuck through the triggerguards.

These are definitely the same "M59's" that Wideners had recently which were discussed in the C&R BP Forums.

They are clearly M59/66's with the grenade launcher and grenade sights removed. The two way gas valve is still intact and functional.

The stocks are absolutely gorgeous and new, perfect. The rifles look like they are brand new and they are not dripping in cosmo. The metal parts are dark and black, no finish wear whatsoever.

Most interestingly, none of the usual components are serialized. The only serial number on the guns is along the side of the receiver. Very unusual, but at least they aren't mixmasters.

I was rather smitten with them and had no choice but to buy one, because I really need another SKS........

Uncle Bobby's recommendation: Go buy one. NOW. I predict they will be sold out by the end of the weekend.

I bought one from Turners last night. The wife went out to the movies & I took the opportunity to spring out the front door with my four year-old daughter in tow. Turners was just crazy, I have never seen such a gun buying frenzy. The SKS's are in very good condition & resisting was pointless. I would imagine the SKSophiles will decry that these are merely "hacked" Yugos and not worth the $399, but they looked pretty sweet to me! Realistically, days of the $99 Russian SKS are long gone indeed. I also ordered the Murray spring return firing pin & 20 stripper clips. Thank you Santa!

read up on sks' slam fire issues and yugo's gas valves. other than that, like any other curio relic get some oem parts for them, although you can get new replacement parts. its up to you if you want to keep your sks as original as possible.

The definitive SKS Book is 'The SKS Carbine (CKC45g) by Steve Kehaya and Joe Poyer

The Yugo 59/66 has more parts than 'regular' SKS rifles because of the GL assembly. Care should be taken when diassembling the GL valve so as not to lose the tiny spring that sits under the valve button. Murray's sells replacement GL valves in the event that you lose them.

Slam fire is an issue only if you don't properly get the cosmoline out of the firing pin channel. If it rattles you are good. The Murray's FP is still a nice upgrade though.

No special cleaning kit needed. Hell, you barely need to clean it. The SKS can get dirty as hell and function fine.

I'd avoid corrosive ammo in the Yugo just to be safe.

Most of the hubbub about the 59/66 gas valve problems is based on people reading about it on the internetz and then mindlessly repeating it as if it happened to them personally.

Just buy it and get a case of Wolf and go beat the hell out of it.

And please, don't BUBBA your G.D. SKS People!!

when i went to clean out the cosmo in the firing pin, i soaked a Q-tip in purple power to really get all the cosmo out of the firing pin holder. your firing pin should rattle when it fully clean.

also recommend the first time you fire the gun, hold it FIRMLY, inclase of the slamfire you can have better control untill it stops.

I am actually retiring from the SKS market, at least for a while. Need to just shoot more and collect less. I sold a few of the Chicom C&R's and kept the rest.

Final tally:
(7) Chinese
(4) Yugo's (2 M59/66, 1 PAP59, and 1 of whatever the Hell the Turners one is supposed to be)
(1) Albanian
(3) Russians

I had a look at them last week. They are exactly as Bobby reported. They look exactly like what Widener's was selling for $375. The two way gas valve from the 59/66 is evident. The barrel has no GL and no clunky suppressor welded on. In fact, the barrel appears to be new. I gauged the barrel and it registered zero. The salesman allowed me to function test it with snap caps. The trigger was OK and chambering and ejection were also OK.

They definitely look like new guns. I couldn't pull the trigger on one, the fit and finish of the stock turned me off. I will keep looking.
