I've had my eye on the CZ82 because I like military / service weapons. I understand they're C&R even though they're made in the 80's, 90's, due to collector interest. I like the "traditional" configurations, so I'm looking at the ones chambered in 9X18mm, but my friend says I'm an idiot for not looking at the the 308's, as he tells me 9mm makarov ammo will not be easy to find. I know it's out there, but does anyone think it will become more available, or less?

I've been able to find some 9mm Makarov.

As long as there is a demand, there will be someone to supply it. Case in point: 8x56r

9x18 might be harder to find in LGSes, but they are really easy to find online. Cheapest brass cased I've found is at PSA when they have free shipping. Cheapest steel was SGammo when they had them in stock.

I was going to get a CZ82 myself, but due to circumstances being what they are (no one can ship and have it delivered in time to the FFL in reno when I'm up there), I'm just going to have wait a bit.

Thanks OHOD and steve91104. I appreciate the replies and the links. I think I'll start looking for a nice specimen in decent shape. Much appreciated!

I think they can ship to California w/o the mag or with a "CA Legal" 9 or 10 round mag.

9x18 mm isn't hard to find at all. IN fact, during uns on ammo it's easier to find than 9mm or .380. The one chambered in .380 iz a CZ-83, not CZ-82.

Does your friend work for a gun shop? He sounds the part :)

He definately sounds the part. He's a great buddy, but wants me to get what he has, and he has a BDA in 308, so he's convinced they're superior. The only reason he's not ragging on me to get the BDA specifically, is becuase they're not on the approved list. You're right about the CZ83. That's the one he's been trying to get me to buy. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm getting tired. I said 308 instead of 380!

I picked up a CZ82 a few months ago PPT in Bay Area. This is one great gun for the money. The 9x18 Makarov is more expensive than the standard 9x19 Luger most of us use. That said, the CZ82 is starting to be a CCW for a lot of folks. If this keeps up, and probably will, we may see the Makarov ammo prices drop.

I LOVE this CZ. I have several newer CZ's, but the 82 is simple, Very accurate, 12 rounds double stack (in kits of course), and parts are available. When I become a bit more flush, I'd like to pick up two more of these.;)

Best of luck in your quest.

Just so you know, the CZ83 mags hold ten rounds of .380 or 9x18 Mak and are available, although they aren't cheap. But they work and hold ten rounds, that what I picked up at J&G last month when I bought this

Ammo's out there, your LGS probably wont carry it but it can be ordered, I'm also in the vicinity of a Basspro and a Cabella's now and then, I can usually snag it there as well.

Not to jack the thread, but do they feed HP ammo without a problem?

The only HP I've tried is Silver Bear, and I didn't have any feeding issues. The CZ82 is one of my favorite pistols to shoot, and whoever complained about the price of ammo wasn't shooting the Russian stuff.

Even the brass reloadable isn't that bad, I paid $13.00 for a box of 50 recently and the Silver Bear is cheap if you want blasting ammo.
