A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.


So yes, yes it does mean military "style" firearms. It doesn't say for hunting or sports. It says necessary to the security of a free State.

The most important bit IMO, "of the people" that was no mistake.

The other key point, it never "gives" the people the right. It limits the government's restriction of the right we already had.
