Tonight CBS ran a piece in defense of why ARs are so common.

With all of the mass hysteria since this tragic event, shots someone thought they heard or a man reported today with gun slung over his shoulder (it was a cane),
we need to break the one sided media bias on this matter soon.
The assaulted documentary would have been nice to roll out at this time.
We need an audience and nation attention on the clips of DiFi and chuck schumer talking about her CCW being released of late. It only seems right to let the dust settle but the Demon-Rat's are all over this before these poor kids are buried.
Sad and disgusting at the same time.-g

They get worse further down. Still on page 1 and I just can't believe some people believe the stuff they post:

Criminals Will not always have weapons, that is an excuse to have your own - America is the only civilized country that has this problem - other countries have taken action to remove guns from society with the result that these killings are very rare.

While I think it was a great piece, its was maybe 2 or 3 minutes long and doesn't even come close to rebutting the tremendous amount of not so subtle brain washing CBS and most of the other networks have been doing the last week.

There was no chance given to rebut some of the most outrageous condemnations placed on the AR, such as its not a sporting gun...heck it IS the sporting gun of choice now...

If you could get on Letterman or 60 minutes I think we would have a much better audience! But 60 minutes is mostly into muggings...

My hat's off to you Gene, we have to do whatever we can. If your video even plants the seed of free thought in just 1 person we should all celebrate. I do my best to educate as many people as I can without sounding like a "gun nut".
As someone pointed out above they did everything they could to smear you, the title "Elementary School Rampage" below you, photos of victims show up to the right of the video. :/

I do whatever I can when I come across a hardcore antis, I find that most just haven't though the whole thing through. Why do I need 15 guns? they ask you... Why does anyone need a 2000 square foot home? Or a Humvee, or Suburban? Why do we need big rigs? Why does anyone need more than 1 television? Why in the world is there more than one news channel? Why do people fly around the world for vacation? Everyone in this world is entitled to their own opinion, even if it's completely wrong because it's based on crap. I think we all need to do our best to ignite the gun spark (though often I find it's more like lighting a bonfire) in friends and coworkers.

You did way better than I think I would have. :P

Exactly correct. You can see that when I'm using the bullet button I'm "doing it right." I'm happy to have lived in California since 1996 and been a major buyer of magazines in 1998/1999...

Thanks everyone. I'm proud to be on the front line but it has a price.

Gene, I thought you did a great job and few of us could be as well spoken, much less do better than you.

What concerned me wasn't the video itself, but many of the nasty comments made by people against you.

Many of these comments were so out of line, mean and hateful that if those comments represent an honest cross section of our country, all I can say is we are hosed.

Kestryll would perma-ban most of those posters if they came onto this forum in a heartbeat and I honestly feel Kestryll and most of the moderators do cut a reasonable amount of slack before banning people.

Gene definitely did an excellent job there. What I'd love to see is the bits of the interview that they didn't show, because I'd bet good money that those bits are much more devastating to the other side's position than what was shown.

I can't see the video right now but I read the article and I'm glad you pointed out that ARs are exceptionally common and versatile in their application for hunting and target practice as well as self defense roles.

We've got to do something about that 15-17.

You've lived here since 1996, that's only about one a year.

I've averaged about two a year since I turned 18, with a slow start (because I was poor).

That marketing to men part is disturbing. There is pink Magpul furniture which is marketed toward females and the AR chambering and ergonomics make it very suitable for even the smallest and lightest people, even women that like their rifles black or camo...

I know there are some unfortunate cases of bias in individual employees at gun retailers (pushing Lady Smiths and tiny .25ACP automatics for female customers) but the general marketing of firearms is to the people who would use them for self defense, carry, hunting or target practice and women can do all of those.

Evidently the school shooter's mother bought an AR so she didn't get the message that "it's a man's gun"...

I'm guessing the reason why is that no one markets the AR that way.
