Letís stop the chicken little act, the hand wringing and letís take action. Our enemies already are.

Letís call and write to our electeds, newspapers, local media, anyone and everywhere.

Letís remind them of the FACTS.

Here is a letter I just drafted and am going to start sending out.

Feel free to use/copy/distribute.

Dear ______,

Much has and will continue to be made of the recent tragedy in Connecticut.
As if the event itself was not awful enough, virtually the instant word of the killings began spreading, some of our societyís vultures began capitalizing on it; callously attempting to use it to push their political agenda to punish almost 100 million innocent, law-abiding American citizens.

These craven individuals are not trying to put forth any solution, or move us any closer to justice, but instead are blindly and rabidly using this awful tragedy to punish almost 100 million law-abiding American citizens.

I would like to put forth for your consideration some facts:

- The killer STOLE the guns he used.

- The killer was, under federal law, not legally allowed to own the handguns he used in the killings; federal law requires one to be 21 years of age to purchase a handgun, the killer was 20.

- The handguns the killer used are commonly owned by millions of law-abiding American citizens.

- The handguns used by the killer are CARRIED daily by millions of law-abiding American citizens with carry permits, and used to protect their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

- We need to focus on enforcing the millions of laws that are already in place. There are so many gun control laws already on the books, it is virtually impossible to count. An educated guess of the number of federal, state and local laws and ordinances among all 50 states would easily put us into the millions of laws and restrictions.

- There are close to 100 million law abiding gun owners in America. Any further attempts to enact more laws is not only an insult to those citizens and the families of the victims, but absolutely and intentionally COUNTER productive to any goal of justice.

- Why was a young man who was so deeply disturbed that he murdered his own mother not in some sort of institution or otherwise under careful, professional watch?

- More gun control laws are a non-starter. The push for new gun control laws is a craven, disgusting attempt to capitalize on this profound tragedy in order to push a political agenda, nothing more.

I urge you, please do not support any legislation whose sole intention is to punish law abiding citizens throughout America for the act of one deranged young man.

Sincerely,

DrjonesUSA

This is incorrect. Even in CA, 18-20 year olds can be legally transferred pistols by their parents or grandparents. I don't know if this is the case in CT, and in any event, it doesn't look like that happened anyway. Just fact checking. Per Federal law, 18-20 year olds may OWN pistols.

That's an incredibly insensitive and bad thing to say - especially given what happened - and only reinforces the stereotypical selfish angry gun owner. Thanks a lot.

Alright, well you sit there and feel all morally upright.

Meanwhile, Feinstein already has a brand new ban almost totally drafted, and it will make '94 look like a walk in the park.

So let's wait until the 11th hour to start lobbying, thus guaranteeing a new ban.

Great idea.

Engage in the comments of news stories in your local media. Quote SCOTUS decisions and the CA7 decision earlier this week. Point them to John Lott's work. Follow the 2A threads here and use the links you find in the discussions. Flood your local media with the facts and links to back them up.

At all turns, remind them that 'Gun Rights ARE Civil Rights'.

If they argue with them, ask why they are actively oppressing the civil right of a minority group. (less than 1/2 the population owns guns)

All of this communication is fine if Obama goes through congress. He would have some opposition to anything radical in the House. But he doesn't like to mingle with the rifraf and may do an executive order, like he did with immigration.

Can executive orders that directly violate civil rights be challenged @ SCOTUS?

That is a false dichotomy. Being conscience about not giving the anti's a reason to label and dismiss us is not mutually exclusive with being proactive.

If I remember correctly, thye changed the report to say that he used a black rifle in the killings, even though he had handguns.

Although I admire the ops initiative, I'd still prefer an organized and concerted effort, agreed to by all of us, before sending mail to legislators.

The SB249 action was a good example of a focused effort.

Relax. All that's occuring now is hot air and political postering. You'll get your chance to state your case, give money, join, write, email, call and march. Until then, lets see where this all goes first before we get the drizzles.

Sorry, the gun grabbers already lost that battle; before the bodies even turned cold there were people in hysterics in the media shrieking for gun bans.

That should be illegal. Those jerks, I hate it when they do that.

Thanks for your efforts though....I'm sure there will be a more coordinated campaign soon......

Has anyone else heard anything in the media about a 2nd shooter ?? There was some mention after the story broke about it, but that has disappeared completely from the radar.

And another item, the gun was found in the car, how did it get back there if he was dead ?

There are some small things that appear odd with the information that is being out by the MSM.

Anyone ??
