Illiana, will be great to see you out again hope you got yourself an OLL for this meet. And no the gunshow is separate and is like $10 to get in a 1000 table gunshow in Nevada where class 3 and sbr is the flavor of the day if you live there (me someday). There will be no beenie babies at this one!! Will post pics when I get back!

Great!! I'm looking forward to Panoche III... I had a great time at Chabot but you can't beat the long range stuff at Panoche.

I hope to see everyone there! :D

When did you promote to mod? They/you are welcome to move it please (we may get better attendance) , but this is where we posted the last meet before the shoots&meets forum. Took camera to SAR show but forgot all about it when I walked through the doors. It was like the big shows here when ca was still part of the us. Believe it or not they had guns there and not one jerky vendor. The real Terminator AR-70 was for sale at 50k nfa of course. They also had a transferable minigun for sale(didnt-ask$) purchased a $h1tload of mag rebuild kits as mine are getting worn. Especially my beta c.

Are there any FAQ's on Panoche? I have the BLM web site for this place, but it seems like there are several "known" shooting spots, and some are open during the summer months while others are not. Does anyone have descriptions or GPS coordinates of these locations, and when/if they're open to shooting? Thanks in advance.

Well, the spot that we normally shoot, you can shoot out to about 400 yds. I need to go out there and drive around and find a location with a longer range shooting area as I would like to shoot out to about 600-700 yds.

There is ALOT of open country out there, it's just a matter of drivivng around and finding a safe spot that could accomodate about 30 people.

The easiest way to get there is to get to the I-5. The name of the exit that you are looking for will say Shields Ave./Mendota. If you are going southbound towards L.A. then make a right to head west. If you are traveling northbound, towards Sacramento then make a left on the exit to head west for about 12 miles. The road is very narrow and windy in places but it is paved. After about 12 miles of you will make a left onto a dirt road called Panache Access road. If you pass the turn, you will see Mercy Hot Springs a little further down on the right. This means that you have gone to far. So pull a U-ie. You will stay on this dusty single lane dirt road for 3 miles going about 15-25 mph. If it has just recently rained a lot you will not make it without 4 wheel drive. Hope this helps.

FEDUPWBS
10-06-2007, 7:29 PM
Bump, and there is nothing (gas, stores, buildings) at the shields exit. I will be comeing the back way through Hollister.

Santa Cruz Armory
10-06-2007, 9:08 PM
From Hollister, go out hwy 25 to panoche road, go left. Follow that to little panoche road, go left again. follow that to the panoche access road (there's a BLM sign there) just past mercy hot springs.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e346/BLFD1/pics005.jpg

Go through the gate and follow road for 5.5 miles, there is only one fork, go right you'll see the area or us off to the right about 1/4 to 1/2 mile down.

I will post signs at the entrance, the fork and the site.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

But you would not be able to fit your canon in my ride though but I would be able to fit the rest of your gear no problem. Let me know.

There is no shade, no shelter, no restrooms, no water or greasy spoon.

You must bring your own shade, shelter, water and food.

And if it has rained a 4 wheel drive will make it, all others have a picnic at the bottom of the hill.

I'll be coming from Lemoore, north on I-5 and exit at Shields ave.

I plan to be in attendance as well with my ultra-capable 4x4, with a newbie shooter on board, no less. I am hoping someone will lend me a rifle so that I can play with some vita t :) Fed, I have yet to purchase my first OLL, goshdarnit.

If the road is muddy slick, I can shuttle people up. If you have a 4x4: you can air down your tyres to 20psi before proceeding up the road. I'll have my air compressor and tyre pressure gauge for those who might need to air up.

I have decided I am going regardless of what the weather is like. I wil be looking for an area I can shoot beyond 500yrds at some point though out the day. I want to see what my new bolt rifle can do. I havent had time to build up a stand for my gong. Can anyone build something up. Its a 15"x15" square with one whole at two corners. The holes I think are 1/2 inch.
So put me down for 2.

For 15 inch wheels, outer catch/lug style.

Just back in from Panoche...Rain what rain. If it did rain out there, it must have just been sprinkles. The dirt roads are dry and dusty as usual. 2WD will do just fine. A lot of new barb wire fence all about and some more routes have been closed since last year. Weather was okay, not hot or cold. A little breezy at times.

As for the hunting report  nothing except for one jack rabbit. Could have got more but didn't feel like wasting my shells.:)

Had some great fun:D finally got to meet some calgunners and put a name to the face. I arrived on saturday at 9pm and started a night coyote hunt but it was so windy I wasnt seeing any movement. I went to sleep at about 2pm. woke up at 6pm and the wind had died down. I was able to call a coyote in the morning after I got up, and shot him with my keltec only to have him get back up and run on private property. but he did leave a good blood trail.

met up with the rest at about 11am and had a blast shooting.

Thats a cool pic of Ricks gongs going over from the concussion.
I tried to get the blast from the blackpowder but it was just too fast for my timing.
Tony, Illiana's buddy got the barrel video on his phone, hopefully it will make it to the thread.

A big Thank You to everyone who shared your time, toys and witticisms with me and my friend, Tony. You all made his first shoot quite memorable and now he wishes to acquire a firearm of his own (Tony really enjoyed Redneck's Keltec and Vick's rifle.. thanks to you both!). I have the video clip, but I haven't the slightest clue on how to post it to the thread, please pm me as to where the instructions are for posting such content to the thread.

Man! I need to get there to!! I have all this steel that needs to be shot at.

The week before Thanksgiving isn't good for me. I'll be out of town for a romantic interlude... Maybe earlier in November or December works better for me.

Nov. too soon. I cant blast that much ammo that soon, way too expensive! Afterbuild shoot will be in fresno area.

I'm pretty open. I'm taking most of November and almost two weeks in December off. So maybe I could sneak down then.

I love it. Top of the barrel flies straight up out of the frame and comes down 4 seconds later. Something huge flies way off to the right. Still trying to convert the vid & bring the sound thru though.

I picked up some nice, shiny, once fired brass for 223, 5.56 NATO, and UMC 9mm Luger at the third gate yesterday! Thanks to whoever left them there.

I'm pretty sure it was none of us leaveing littel shiny presants.

We had alot of reloaders in our group so brass was like money on the ground.

Yeah, everyone I seen there was picking up their own brass and more. Old habit of picking up and leaving the area clean.

By the way, I discovered I don't yet need a scope to see 100 yards and my barrel is not bent.
I just need to practice the FUN damentals more often:D

I was able to shoot some 308's from a really cool M1 type with a scope and hit the gongers at 400 yards. Thank you (Brian?), it was a hoot.

I also seen my rifle in its original military configuration. Jason had his there setup on a table and shooting the distance. Its a Belgium made bolt action critter in .30 cal, don't know the official name other than 'deer rifle'.

Looking forward to the next one. I'll be bringing the .35 Remington to make sure the barrel isn't bent on that one too.

Hi Vick,

Guess what, I was right about saying that your FN contract Colombian mauser was made in 1950. What ever you do please don't drill and tap for scope mounts into that girl. :( But it's your rifle so you are free to do with it as you please. If you ever plan on letting her go someday, I'm more than willing to help. :chris:

Also did anybody out there happen to find something extra when they got home. I missed place my dog's shock collar transmitter. It's about the size of a cell phone, hard black plastic case with three push buttons and a dial on it. How about a finders fee, some free ammo or brass your choice.

Thanks Jason but I think I'll be keeping it, 1950 is also my birthyear. I don't plan to drill and tap it for a scope. I discovered it still shoots quite straight and if I can't see the sights I'll just shoot at something closer, like 100 yards.

Anyone find your dogs transmitter?
