I am trying to find shooting/murder cases in (California) that elicited a response from the public about gun control. Anybody have any suggestions?

101 California Shootings in 1993. I was around the area with my parents when it happened. We were about to go inside the building to see an Attorney about a asbestos case for my Grandpa. My mom noticed people running out in panic and decided we should not go in.

North Hollywood Bank Robbery would be your best bet.

response from the public about gun control.

Newer is better, that good old stuff (Hollywood, etc.,) won't have much.

feinstein went running and screaming around congress in 1994 citing the 93 101 california shooting.

While it wasn't a murder, for historical perspective the Black Panthers visiting the capitol while open carrying may be good for you also. Led to the start of gun control in CA, signed by then Gov. Reagan.

Definitely the North Hollywood shootout. There is a lot of info floating around on that.

Gun control has almost always been about race. Until the colored people started to have access to them. Evolution of gun control.

1. Elite whites pass laws to keep non whites from owning guns.
2. Once non whites started to climb the economic social ladder and start owning firearms.
3. Elites "insert color" pass laws to keep anyone who's not an elite " insert color" from owning arms.

yuuuup, i'd focus on the rascist roots of gun control. you can find more by going on twitter and looking at posts from Kevin Thomason.

oh adam winklers book Gunfight was pretty good too.

then finish up with the mcdonald and heller court cases.

Connorr931, by cases do you mean published judicial decisions or events that were reported by the media as causing public scandal? Send me a PM and I can share some references and books on the subject. Nothing4u raised some interesting points for social historical context.
