View Full Version : 12/21/12 - Doomsday.... what to expect?

I'm not really talking about the world ending with the wrath of God coming down on the Earth in a fiery ball, or anything like that. But rather, how are you preparing for everything else that could possibly happen on that day? Meaning, dealing with the 'crazy' people who believe the worse and are out to do whatever because they feel there's no tomorrow.... yes, even as crazy as it sounds.

My dad, who is a semi-hardcore prepper, keeps on telling me that I should stock up on lots of water & supplies and just stay home from work on 12/21, not because of the world ending but because there will be lots of idiots out there who do believe it is ending, and that I should just hunker down in case something were to happen (whether it's an economic issue, or some punks trying to break into my house to loot the area, etc).

Me personally, I plan on going along with my normal life and still going to work (but leaving early since I have some PTO time left for this year and I just want to beat the Friday traffic), but I was going to take some extra supplies & guns/ammo (LUCC) with me to work, as I'd rather have it and not use it than not have it and be screwed.

What are your plans for Doomsday?

I expect to be at home doing what I do everyday. That is be ready to react to situations as they unfold. I do not believe 12/21/12 will be any more important then 12/3/12 is so far.

We will be working from home that day. Not because of any end of the world concern but more over the crazy people concern.

There will be no special preps dont the night before other than making sure the batteries are all charged up and the tanks are full.

I am doing some Christmas shopping.

I actually know a guy that lives in a free-state that will have all his firearms loaded up on the living room table... hell, maybe I should load up some mags (that aren't normally loaded) in case some crazy tries to get in the house all hopped-up on Obama (Anti-)Jeezus-juice.

I might buy a box, or two of defensive +P ammo (the stuff I have is starting to get tarnished/oxidized cases,) and not go to the range while saving up target ammo until the following year kicks-in.

New Year's Eve into Jan 1st is my concern. There are some drunk as fsck fools driving and doing stupid things during that time.

My lady actually took a vacation day of 12/21/12, kind of as a joke.

I did her one better, 12/20 and 12/21/2012 taken as vacation days. :)

Not going to do anything differently.

It's impossible to predict what crazy people will do...they're crazy! Therefore, any choice you make could be the worst possible choice.

Maybe the crazies will decide that killing people at home is what Quetzlcoatl wants them to do, so you should be careful to stay out all day...

In any event, I don't think there are enough 12/12 crazies in this area to warrant changing my behavior at all.

I'm going to be hitting the Captain Morgan and eggnog pretty hard, maybe playing a lot of Texas hold 'em or perhaps sevens or hi-lo...whatever the inlaws feel like playing.

As an additional prep, I'll be stockpiling some nice ruby port, rose brut and some nice dry Pinot Noirs or maybe a Tempranillo or two.

The worst that I see happening is that I get dragged to the mall for some last minute xmas shopping and have to listen to my wife ask me "do you think this'll look good on her?" 50,000 times in a row.

I'm thinking I'll be watching some nut job jump off of a huge rock in Arizona. It's called the Leap of Faith. He believes that we are all part of a computer program that is scheduled to shut down on 12/21/12. At 11:11 on 12/21 a portal will open up that links to the galactic center. He's going to jump through it.

I don't know... I've read a few threads on here that aren't any better. EMPs, Earth-frying solar storms, aliens, zombies - you know, things that some survivalists are preparing for. While all those "could" happen, the odds are about the same as what you're making fun of right now. It's apparently easy to make fun of other people, just don't look too closely in the mirror.

Marathon 12+ hour small-unit leadership evaluation to include multiple live fire, fire and movement events to be held on 21 December 2012

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn77/Lance1775/c2.jpg

Small Unit Leadership Evaluation (SULE) [Soo-lee]

The Concept of Operation:
* A rigorous crucible based around a 4-6 person fire team.
*Each of the members gets to lead at least once as the Fire Team Leader.
*Each leader is issued a mission and aided in the mission planning by a veteran Marine infantry officer and/or Staff Non-Commissioned Officer or NCO
*Once the mission order is planned and rehearsed it is presented before the rest of the team.
*Each mission climaxes in a live fire, fire and movement course of fire that is rehearsed and supervised for safety.
*Once the mission is complete, the Fire Team is led back to an “Assembly Area” and a new Fire Team Leader is appointed for the next mission.
*After action evaluation and feed back by a mentor, a veteran Marine infantry officer or Staff NCO.
*Multiple classes in the beginning for your education and safety; small unit tactics, emergency medicine/first aid, order processing and issuance.
*A lot of walking; mole skin will be necessary.
*A lot of exertion; you will need to be in good cardio-vascular condition with the blessing from your doctor. You will need to pound Gatorade throughout the trial.
*A lot of shooting; pushing your situational awareness, firearms skills, firearms and equipment to the maximum.
*Bag punching mixed in throughout to simulate hand-to-hand combat.
*Your ability to lead and follow will be strengthened under the stress of less-peaceful conditions.
*Two first-aid responders on scene during the entire event.
* 21 December 2012

*Location at Angeles Shooting Range due to rugged terrain and easier access to night shooting.
*The thumbnail gear list: rifle, pistol optional, firearms supporting gear, load bearing equipment (chest rig, vest, harness, plate carrier, etc.), day/assault pack, cap, cold weather gear, weapons cleaning gear, pen/pencil, notepad, hydration source (camel, canteen, water bottles, etc.), good boots (broken in), cargo pants, long sleeve shirt (no camouflage clothing during the day) and intestinal fortitude.
*Rifle ammunition: ~1000 rounds. 22 LR is acceptable.
* 550 cord, duct tape, two-way radios, lunch, dinner and other consumable items provided. Load bearing equipment loaners available.
*Prerequisites: Rifle/Carbine 202, Low-Light/Night Tactics 101 and Combined Arms & Tactics (CAT) 303 by St. Crispian. Other schools offer an RC 202 and Low Light 101 equivalent which can be honored. No one else offers CAT 303.
*Also for a reduced rate you can attend the academic portions of this training, observe, and learn if this interests you.

(ASR) SULE: Friday, 21 December 2012
Full 14-hour course: 8:00 am - 10:00 pm $375.00

I remember when Y2K hit, I wasn’t expecting doomsday but I was expecting at least SOME problems. Banks or Airports shutting down to fix computer problems and such. However there was NOTHING, the only thing I saw on the news was a video store that had late fees calculated incorrectly. For 12/21/12 I imagine there will be some entertainment on the news of crazies gathered on a mountain top or something but short of that I don’t expect ANYTHING at all this time around.

I am a school music director and will be doing 4 performances that day. That is almost an end of the world in itself! Then when I get home, I will have a glass or two of nice wine, watch a little tube with the wife, have a decent dinner and plan my next two weeks off from school and then the SHTF when the kids go back to class!

We do have our share of preps ready for earthquake survival and if SHTF on 12/21 we are set for a time.

Do you really think that because the Mayan calendar runs out that day we will havae some sort of catastrophe. For years my Girl Scout calendar ran out on Dec. 31. We just get a new one to replace it. The Mayans just did not get a chance to update their calendar.

I read the post but couldn't find it again for a quote; someone here mentioned Y2K.....

My buddies and I were pretty sure nothing was going to happen, but just to be sure we didn't miss an awesome show: We packed up a bunch of good cigars, a couple bottles of 18 year Jamesons, and headed off in the 4x4 into the mountains to a spot on one of the mountains that overlooked the whole valley my little town is in. We lit a bonfire, smoked cigars, sipped good whiskey, listened to great solid gold country music.....and watched absolutely nothing happen.....then had a pretty good laugh about it.

Realistically, that is probably going to be how we spend 12/21/2012. :)

Any chance I get to see L.A. destroyed is a plus.

I get overjoyed while watching Battlefield: Los Angeles.

Maybe go see Bootsy Collins at the Uptown Theater in Napa with some buds from work. Otherwise, just another day as far as disasters go.
If anything DOES happen, it will be man made, and hopefully able to be controlled without too much trouble.

The "crazies" I am worried about: "Crazed dad carves pentagram into son's back on 12/12 'because it's a holy day'" (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/dad-carves-pentagram-son-12-12-article-1.1219155).

And that's the problem with belief structures that don't require logic or proof, one can simply "decide" what is real. He says it's a holy day... try and disprove him. That's how belief work, where if something can't be disproved means that it "might" be true. It's just a short slide down the slope of dilision to deciding that it is. It's the same mindset that extreme survivalists use to construct their own circular view of the world.

I don't think a damn thing is gonna happen. I don't even think the crazys will do much of anything. I might carry my 9mm that day rather than my .380 just incase some moron gets froggy but that's about it.

The "crazies" I am worried about...

I'm not really worried, just going to be on alert for them. I'm pretty rural, both at work and at home. I think most of "the stupid" will be confined to the more urban areas.

I just wonder how many Kool aid drinker groups will be found in their matching workout suits in the days following...

Seriously? You guys are actually going to alter your day (carry extra ammo, etc.....lol)?

I had to remind my wife about 12/21/12 and she totally forgot.....same with my friends. The degenerates won't remember 12/21/12 either.

Did you guys forget about Y2K? It was a total bust in case you forgot your recent history

Anyone want to make a wager on the outcome of that day?

Business as usual for me.

I'm going to stay home. It will be better in my neighborhood than in major populated areas. The more people you have together the dumber they get.

Ill be in my bed with my honey until she wakes up to go to work, Im off and will be at the range by 1020 am, my regular day off. I am really looking forward to the 23rd my sons will be wrestling in a tournament that Sunday. I am not concerned with zombies either, more worried about the live idiots, and that is an everyday thing.

Yeah I got in a "discussion" with a guy who just KNEW that the poles were going to flip on a certain date. It was very enlightening to see how someone's mind works, a circular dilusion where all contrary evidence is ignored, one where he only took "data" from similiarly-minded people - sound familiar?

Anyhow, I told him to mail his property deed and car pinkslip to me since he wouldn't be needing them. Of course, to keep his dilusion alive, he countered with, "well you won't need it either." At last contact (this was >10 yrs ago) I told him 3-days before The Event that he still had time to start writing why he was completely wrong. I think he got mad at me... wonder how he's doing these days...

All I ask is to be objective, open-minded, with some semblance of logic, getting information from differing sources instead of taking "facts" off survivalist blogs, which only results in a narcissistic self-fulfilling view of matters.

Just another day, but I would wager a group or two will make final preparations for the "spaceship" to take them away.

It is really sad when one nut job is able to convince many people of something so bizarre.

Well happened in the past and will continue to happen.

like most said, not worried about the end coming, just the weirdos. i'll be taking the ruger with me to work, dropping off the kids and working local. should i get out of local, i have an unemployed gun-toting brother who will be nearby so i'm not worried. wife's on her own, she doesn't want to take a gun....
