Oooooo driver what is that slip on grip you have? I'm looking for one to put on mine.

Hogue universal grip for Glocks. It was a PITA to get it on, but it swells the palm nicely and I like the sticky grip it allows around the finger grip area. I originally had on rubber decal grips on it and found a spare Hogue grip I had lying around and liked it much better.

$11.50 from Glockmeister. I can usually find them for between $9-$10 at the gunshows and some local guns stores.

My to go gun in .45 auto has changed over the years. My sentimental favorite is my Colt MK IV series 70 Gold Cup National Match that was worked over decades ago by Jim Hoag and is a Shooter, not safe queen. (she has some trigger time on her but runs 100%) I plan on having her re-finished and re-blued by a professional in the future, But she is the perfect .45 auto and I will always have her.

My current favorites in .45 Auto are my GLOCK 21s. I have several but my newest GEN4 is really nice. The perfect grip and it runs and runs all day.

If I need a .45 to get home thru Gangland at night on foot then I am taking my Glock 21 Gen4 with me. (with it's green lazer...real easy to see)

Clearly I own no .45, but for guys razzing Glock owners for being single minded perhaps you should consider that you're being the same way; just with a different gun.

I personally have never liked the glocks ergos, and a 1911 is pretty and all but a little to mechanically complicated. Each has its own plus and minus but i'm pretty sure the thread is "what is your favorite .45" not Let's all brow beat each other about our selections!

For you maybe, but apparently not to everyone. I like the 1911, but I would argue that the HK45 or USP 45 can do anything a custom 1911 can for a lot less money. It's at least as reliable as a custom 1911, as accurate as one, has interchangeable parts without the need to fit them, can be carried condition 1 and offers a higher capacity. All this for a much lower cost than a custom 1911. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I don't have much experience with HK's to refute most of what you said but why can't 1911's be carried condition 1? That is the only way they should be carried IMHO.

A 1911 can be carried condition 1 and I agree that it should be. And that was my point; the HKs can do everything a custom 1911 can do for less money.

I'm not saying it should be anyone's favorite gun. What I was pointing out was there are pistols in .45 beyond the 1911 that offer a lot.

And that is a fine opinion. But not all people are the same, so you know, freedom of choice and all that.

I have a 1911 and a Glock 21, I choose the 1911, though I can also see the merits of the 21. That's a 21, not a 21SF that I have. The SF might tilt my opinion.

A 1911 is awesome, but the 21/21SF does give you a potential 13 rounds, and it's lighter, and it costs like $500.

And of course, there are many more guns than just that, and OP did not say .45 ACP, so maybe a nice Colt SAA in .45 long colt?

How about a S&W 625 revolver?

I'll answer your question with another question. Is there anything you don't own that you would say you have some knowledge of? Some type of automobile perhaps, or perhaps some sort of book knowledge. I know that hands on is great, but you can get most of the way there without it. I've seen plenty of disassembled 1911's to see all the requisite springs and tiny parts. All guns have tiny parts, but 100 year old engineering takes the cake on that one.

But again, it's a beauty all the same.

But again, it's a beauty all the same.

I try very hard not to talk to much about things I don't have knowledge of. I think that comes with my old age. :) I don't think you can get "most of the way" anywhere without doing it.

Regardless of that - it wasn't until I detail stripped my 1911, and then put it all back together to realize that Browning was a genious. It is very easy to assemble, and aside from some pins there aren't "that" many small parts.

Remember, like the Glock, it was designed as a military weapon and designed to be taken apart with minimum/no tools.

You are right though - it is super sexy.

I love when people post pics of thier targets when the miss. A good group of misses does not show off your skills very well.

Actually a tight 'group' is the goal. A tight group shows consistency and skill. Sights can be adjusted; but go for a good group first. :cool2:

 Give me a break.

Besides, according to your for sale thread, quoted below, it sure sounds like you gave the 1911 platform a solid chance to develop a valid opinion! ...Love it when people make decisions without trying things first (e.g. Oh no, I don't like sushi. Have you had it? No.). A single action gun with no safety at all? Genius idea there.

[b]Price: $600 OBO or trade for Glock 17,20,34, Beretta 92, Sig 9mm

I got this gun in a trade from a fellow cal gunner. He said he fired less than 500rds I have not added any to that total. Comes with 3 7rd mags 2 10rd mags and a compensator with original box. The 1911 platform just doesn't work for me.

You guys would seriously pick a Glock over a 1911 in the .45 category? I'd without a doubt go with a 1911.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Depends on what you mean by favorite, and what one uses the pistol for.

I love shooting my 1911, but it's had jamming issues, been back to the factory twice for repairs.

My Glock G30's have never jammed, not once in many thousands of rounds. Of course, I did have a G30 blow up in my hand, but that was a faulty ammo issue, and the ammo manufacturer replaced it plus some extra cash. I don't know the originator of this quote, but I like it :

"You show your 1911 to your friends, you show your Glock to your enemies" .

My favorite for concealed carry would be my Kahr P45. Thinner and lighter than many compact 9mm's, 6 or 7 +1 .45 ACP. Easy to conceal, amazingly accurate for such a small pistol.

Oh yeah, if you include revolvers in this discussion, the Blackhawk would be at the top of the list for me for just fun shooting. I handload for mine, and it's a blast shooting cowboy type loads, mild recoil and very accurate. With heavy loads it would be powerful enough for almost any North American game.

I rarely shoot .45 ACP rounds through it, but it's great to have the capability.

All these glocks and 1911's... Guess that makes me the black sheep of the forums! I love my second gen Beretta PX4 Storm 45. When they first came out the barrel was apparently a bit loose, but the newer ones have fixed that. Even on a bad arthritis day 3" groupings are fairly standard :oji:

I bought this Heckler & Koch P9S chambered in .45 ACP back in 1980, and I still enjoy shooting it. It's unmodified, but has a terrific 3.5lb smooth SA trigger pull and is more accurate than I am.
