View Full Version : Transferring Newly purchased Handgun from Father to Son in CA

I've read a few articles on this and still not clear on it. If I purchase a handgun for my son as a gift, do I need to complete a form to transfer it to his name?

Yes you use this form http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/pdfs/firearms/forms/oplaw.pdf? And you make sure tht your son has his HSC and don't forget the $19 fee

It is my understanding that if you give a gun to your son or daughter no paperwork is needed.

Long guns only, and that changes Jan 1 2014.

And it's the receiving person who files the paperwork, though probably it doesn't matter, if the form is filled out correctly.
