I am thinking of buying a 9mm barrel for my xd40 service model. Any recommendations on what to get and where to get it from? Is there anything else you have to do to get most to fit or do they just drop in?

I used the EFK Firedragon 9mm barrel conversion http://www.efkfiredragon.com/xd-service-4-model-9-mm-conversion.html but looks like its currently out of stock.

No fitting required on my 40, it was just a drop-in. EFK does warn you that there may be some fitting. Just make sure to use 9mm magazines. Two guns in one!

Em9, did you end up getting the dragonflies? And if so how did it turn out for you?

Can you do the reverse? Convert an XD9 to an XD40?

As far as I know you cannot.

I ended up not doing it yet. I got a cz, and spent too much on a scope and parts for my XVR. Someday I will buy the barrel just not anytime soon.

Should be a simple drop-in but will need 9mm mags. Also have seen some discussion regarding this type of conversion that warns that there could be extractor issues (using extractor for .40 S&W on 9mm Luger).

Heres some more info on the different brands of conversion barrels.

http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/polling-place/213333-9mm-conversion-barrel-xd-40-1-stormlake-2-efk-3-bar-sto.html

From what I have read most people do not have any problems when they convert their .40s to 9. And some are even using the .40 cal mags just fine with 9mm. But for 100% function go with the right magazines.

I just ordered a Storm Lake .40 to 9mm conversion barrel online last night for a good price. So if anyone is looking for one PM me and I will give you a link.

be careful... i did this with my xd(m) 40 with a 4.5" barrel and it will not cycle 115 grain ammo... ive done everything i could from 6 different factory loads to even reloading some really hot rounds!

it cycles 124 and 147 fine, but not 115's... i get about 7 stovepipes out of every mag... its very annoying and i wish i could shoot the gun in 9mm but its too much of a burden to deal with!!

just be leery that it may not work!

You should try changing recoil springs. On the XDm you need to change from the stock 18# spring to a 16# when running the 9mm barrel.
