I have a Springfield 1911 GI model that i'd like to have custom wood grips made/purchased.
Possibly with my father's name on them for christmas as I am giving him my 1911 S.A.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I may find a vendor that can do that? If not that; even reputable wood grips that someone would recommend? I have Hogue grips right now but I know he likes the more original look.

I'm sure Larry Davidson would do that for you. Good guy to work with.

This is a few days old, but I thought I would throw a name into the ring(not mentioned before here on CGN). I was just browsing for the same thing and came across a guy that does them in Texas. Just ordered these etched walnut grips:
The guy has a personal website with some samples(etc.) and is surprisingly quick to reply to emails(price quotes, questions, etc.). I have not received the grips yet, but so far TX4GUNS (http://home.comcast.net/~tx4guns/) has been a pleasure to work with. I will post some pics once I get them on. The price wasn't too bad for me because he already had the ones I posted in stock($75). I would imagine something with a little more custom work would run you a little more money.
