Nice to be visiting a FREE STATE like Idaho. Went to the grocery store, Best Buy, liquor store, breakfast place, burger place and basically all over town and no one cared one stinkin bit.

Feels good to be FREE! I might sling my AR over my shoulder tomorrow:D (OK seems the twinky eaters cant tell that I was joking)

You're the reason they shut down boise airport and had cops running around all over town. Now I know why they kept getting calls for man with a gun.

Shhhhhh. Don't tell everyone it's nice here. And by the way, the mall is a no carry area. They will call the cops and ask you to leave as its private property.

Never have open carried in public places before. I imagine it would feel very odd. I have open carried while hiking/backpacking and even then I was worried about someone screaming and running the other direction. Funny how the cali native mind is so geared to fearing firearms while other free states just see it as another tool on the belt. Lived here my whole life, I'm big into firearms and I still get the chills thinking about open carry in public. Brain washing I received in the public school system is still there :TFH:

Slinging your AR over your shoulder while visiting Idaho just screams "I'M FROM CALIFORNIA, SUCK IT!" States like Idaho, Washington & Oregon don't particularly care for Californians as it is, so I doubt you'll have the same positive experience. Parade rain over, congratulations on your first LOC escapade.

^^ Add AZ to the list. :)

The locals understood he was just another refugee from the socialist republic. But people weren't blinking an eye, because they were too busy laughing, or looking for cover. :) :)

It was a joke. Just a joke about being free in a free state. You either get it or not. :chris:

It's hard to tell because I see enough of the "I'M VISITING A FREE STATE AND I'M GOING TO OC WHILE I TAILGATE AND GET DRUNK AT THE FOOTBALL GAME" type posts on this forum to make me jaded.

Hopefully that type will outgrow the need to let everyone around them know they have a weapon:(.

90% of the OCers I have ran into here in AZ were visiting Californians...who didn't realize you can conceal in AZ without a permit. One guy I talked to (hit him up to talk about the beautiful Sig 1911 scorpion he was carrying) said he was only open carrying to feel like a badass with a gun......beautiful gun though, definitely worth "showing off"

This. Short of a spot on a reality t.v. show, promises of sex with every new Playboy bunny of the month, a large payout or a combination of all 3 I wouldn't even joke about open carrying...

So does open carry in populated areas, to a degree. Getting you cwl here involves 2 quick visits to dmv...one to apply and the second to pick up the license.

Ha.... boy is that true. Mine has 3 speeds. The third is whining loudly in my ear all the way to where he will run.

That is too true. My GSP just finished whining for an hour because we are now at my in-laws out in the country where he always gets to run. He picks up on the gear I load up in the truck and there is no stopping his whining until wet get here.

Btw, the GSP Rescue in Bonsall, CA is a great place to get a dog. You would never guess how many smart dogs that need homes.

I have my AZ permit, but the last time I went I OC'd too simply because it was hot and I didn't have a good holster for my G17. Since then I've purchased a few more holsters, but even the people I know who live in AZ often carry openly just because it's easy.

That would look out of place in most parts of Virginia. Almost everyone here who carry a pistol do so concealed. It's easier for a law abiding citizen to get a CCW than to get his car pass the state inspection.

What; no one even complemented you on such a fine piece?!

Oh, and German Short Hairs are incredibly intelligent dogs, my dad's buddy used to hunt with a few that I came into contact with.

I'm SO glad we don't have car inspections, lol...

I open carry about 20% of the time that I carry because it is easier and I don't have to worry about dressing around the gun. But even in Phoenix it draws attention. It's not really negative attention unless you get some liberal transplant or a snowbird; it's more like people noticing that you are OCing and then taking a second to size you up and make sure you're a good guy. I dislike OCing for that reason alone: it draws eyes to me. I want to be the gray man, the every man, the man who disappears into the crowd, not the man that everybody stares at while he's standing in the frozen foods aisle debating between Tombstone and Red Baron.
