So my brother just told me he bought a new Ruger SR 1911. He is fairly new to firearms but has owned pistols before. I am not new to firearms but I am not too familiar with the 1911 type pistols. I told he he should of waited and done some research. He said he was only out looking but, the 1911 caught his eye. The sale person said it was a good deal and they don't last long(they all say that). He paid $699+tax and DROS. From the research I have done so far they seem like well built 1911s but again I have very limited experiance with them. How would this compare to a 1911 around the same price range? Did he over pay for it? Does anyone have experience with this pistol? All advice is welcomed and appreciated. :)

As far as I know they are awesome. Your brother in CA? I thought we couldn't get em here

Lets see, they retail for anywhere from $750 to $800.

Paying that price, especially out here in Kalifornia; not too shaby.

I'd say he got an excellent deal though

A few weeks ago, one infamous poster tried to argue that it was at least as good as a Les Baer.

For the price they are great. In the grand scheme of things though, they aren't anything special.

From what I hear and read, it's a POS. I'll gladly take it off his hands and save him the grief and ridicule he'll surely be getting once seen in public with that thing. Do what is right and convince him to sell it to me. :)

$699 seems like a great price. I've heard that they've been selling on here for way above that since they're so hard to get. There's one for sale local to me in WA for $700 and it's used, so I'd say you've done well. I'd buy the $700 one today and put a couple rounds through it then sell it to you CA fools if the price gouging was still going on :p

The SR1911 were under $700 when they were new. I've seen them for $629. Then a few video reviews hit the internet (like Hicock45's) and demand went up along with prices. Looks like things are cooling back down.

FYI, it is not a true-to-spec 1911 so parts compatibility is not 100%.

The money has already been spent, so why even ask the question? Why not set a day to meet at the range and put some ammo through it? That's the best way to celebrate the addition of a new firearm.

I know the plunger tube is part of the frame, but that is the only difference I know of off the top of my head. I assumed it was a pretty standard 1911 otherwise.

I know. That's the first I've heard of it too.

I heard these pistols are hard to find new in free states, much less goofy CA. Maybe Ruger is caught up on production?
Either way to get one in CA, SSE at that price is a very good deal IMO. Right place at the right time. I'm sure he could sell it for at least what he paid here in CA if he winds up not liking it. Off-list guns are always sought after here in this state. Good luck!

There are a lot more on GunBroker these days and the prices are coming back down for those litings...So I do think Ruger is catching up.

I will have to call DAS and check on the deposit I have had with them for a while now...:D

Here in Louisiana I've seen 4 brand new at stores/gun shops within a week of each other. Plus several vendors online. Just gotta keep your eyes open.

Plenty of people around here will pay a hell of a lot more than that... IF we could find one.

If he doesn't like it shoot me a PM. ;)

Never say never, but as it sells now the SR1911 won't be rostered. No mag disco, no infernel lock (or is it an LCI? I can never remember) and no 80 series type firing pin block. Ruger has no plans I've heard of to introduce a CA compliant model, either. Why would they?

PPT or SSE is the only way (I believe) to get one.
