me and my buddy are going to go to San Jacinto Wildlife Area this weekend to walk the field with our shotguns and rifles. I'm just curious as to what's in season right now, should I get the upland bird stamp? What can I hunt with a regular hunting license and upland bird stamp?

What else should I buy at big 5 before we go? this is our first hunting trip, we're inexperienced and don't know what to bring? So far i'm thinking a knife, some water and food but what else should I take into the field with me when i go hunt? thanks

Always carry a pig tag or two they're in season year round.

Matches or a lighter always helps.

Hunting season is generally in the fall after nesting season and when young animals are grown up and not dependent on their parents.

rabbits and varmints are usually year round. Crow season has restrictions..best get a copy of the big game and upland game guides for the "chart" on restrictions and zones.

ON EDIT: Sounds like it would be a good idea to have a hunting lic..it almost sounds like you don't have one.

to get a pig tag do i have to pay for a big game application or just pay for the tag on top of my regular hunting license?

also are any birds in season right now? should i even get the duck or upland birds stamp?

If you plan on going after Quail and Dove this year, then get the upland bird stamp. Dove season opens in about 1 month.

Pigs, Coyotes, Jack rabbits, skunks, I think that cotton tail season is open but check at the DFG website.

second that wise fellow who suggested you check the Ca DFG web site. They (Game Wardens and Rangers) don't like it when you tell them you don't know what you're hunting for...

Cottontail are in season as of July 1.
Jackrabbits are all year long.
San Jacinto doesn't allow rifles.
Not sure if it's open to hunting right now.

Go to CA DFG site and find the Guide to Hunting on State and Federal Areas.
Search for Jacinto and check its' rules.
