Today was opening day for Whitetail rifle in Oklahoma. I shot this decent 8 point at 6pm just before dark. He came walking down the trail with another smaller buck. I took a broadside shot at 115 yards and he went straight down. This is my first whitetail. The biggest deer that we've seen on this ranch this year is a 160" 4 year old. I couldn't pass up this deer for the hope of something bigger. Not a California deer but the best deer this Californian will get.

Thanks guys. The ranch is on 5000 acres in the middle-of-no-where western Oklahoma.

Nice buck! Just from reading your post, it sounds like you feel like you shot a 'decent' buck, but the photos seem to tell a different story. That looks like a big buck to me, maybe not a monster with points sticking out everywhere, but tall and wide! Besides the freak monsters, do they come a whole lot bigger than that? I've only ever hunted coastal Blacktails.

That's a very nice buck....probably a wall mounter for most. Probably around a 105-110 inch gross buck with probably only an inch in deductions. near perfect symmetry which is very cool.

To answer your question...bucks this size are fairly common.....in my neck of the woods growing up people that hunt hard usually get a chance on a buck of this size 1 every 2-3 years....give or take depending on the property. They get a whole lot bigger...the op was talking about a 160" which is a book buck in most every state depending on deductions.

White tails usually don't get as tall or wide as a big black tail but they make up for it in points and mass usually.

All that being said....that buck would have a spot in my game room more than likely....it's on the edge but it's just got good symmetry and I like big typical bucks..

He actually scored 132 net. Which is a wall mounter just about anywhere. I'm getting him done here locally in OKC. I say decent, because we have trail cam pics of about 25 different 140 to 150 bucks, and 3 different 160 to 170's. Check the trail cam pic thread on here for a few shots. My dad shot a 150+ ten point tonight, and we weren't able to find him. Gonna look in the morning, so I'll have another update either way. It's an interesting story...

132 net .....I just don't see it....pictures never help much but for an 8 point to hit 132 its gotta be huge.......what were dimensions.....that buck above I would guess to hit 140-150 easy.....160 seems like it would be tough depending on deductions on that G3.......but that's a slammer........that was a velvet picture so a lot changes.

132 is big and would go on anyones wall.....Just from pictures I wouldn't have said that.

I couldn't tell you the dimentions. The taxidermist scored him and it was very close to what my uncle scored in the field. I do remember that each brow tine was almost 8 inches, and the spread was 17. I'm 6'3" 250 lbs. The buck weighed 198 gutted. It's a 5 year old whitetail.

I'm not gonna argue....it's a nice buck definitly mature and a wall mounter for most. The only score that matters is the one in your head.

I would've guessed a spread of 17 and 8" tines. I like the tines the most. I could see it getting there.....

I dont see it happening at least not in big numbers....and the range would be limited.

Me either. Proper habitat would be limited and no way for them to migrate in naturally. Desert Whitetail...?

Supposedly there was some released along the Sacramento River. There was a thread or post on it either in here or Jesse's within the last 3 years.

Interestingly enough...about 2 years ago I swore I saw a whitetail up in the Knoxville area. It was a doe but I only saw her for a few seconds. This just reminded me of that. I still highly doubt it was but I thought for sure it was a whitetail.

I think eventually they will get.here on their own since they've crossed the snake river.canyon into Oregon and Washington but yeah I hope Jesse sees this and can chime in on that story
