Hey, guys my name is Josh. I'm a 23 year old from PA, but the Air Force currently has me stationed in MD. Come March I will be PCSing to CA for a little more than a year. I'll be in the Monterey area and would like to find someone to shoot with. Unfortunately, none of my current firearms are CA legal. I've been eying a Walther PK380, however I just saw the recall. I'm not a fan of revolvers - no reason in particular, I'd just prefer a semi. So, with that...can anyone recommend anything and/or does anyone want to go shooting with me?

Welcome, I'm in Monterey too. We've got the Laguna Seca range 20 minutes from here with gongs out to 500yds and a fun reactive steel area for pistol. What firearms do you own that make you say they'll be illegal in CA? There are weird laws here but there's more misinformation out there that make people believe everything is illegal.

Awesome. My AF buddy has been in Monterey for a good while. Love it up there. Went to LS range once, nice place.

Hi Josh, welcome to Calguns and thank you for serving. :patriot: Could you please provide us with some more information on your firearms that aren't CA legal. If by chance you mean handguns that are not on the CA approved list then you may have a misconception of the list. Handguns not on the list are legal to own as long as they do not violate CA AW laws, threaded barrel, etc. The list only covers what a CA FFL can sell to the general public, LEO's are exempt from the list.

If you have an AR or AK not banned by name then they too are legal if you add a bullet button or make them featureless and only use magazines that hold 10 or less rounds.

You can bring magazines but any that hold more than 10 rounds must be disassembled before entering CA and not reassembled while in CA.

Don't try to make sense of our laws, they were enacted based on emotion, not logic.

I currently have an XD40 and a G19 (both stock). I'm aware that Springfield Armory still sells 10rnd XD40 mags, however I'd already decided to buy a smaller gun for ankle carry back home. I have no rifles yet and don't plan on getting one until I'm out of CA. The upside is, I go from CA to TX, so I might look around down there.

I learned a long time ago that not everyone thinks logically. This is mostly why once I'm majoring in Psychology. :)

Welcome. I'm just north of Monterey in Watsonville. they have a nice indoor range there i shoot at a lot. Nice place, nice staff and you can always get a lane, never once had to wait. Always looking for people to shoot with. I'm old enough to be your father but that doesn't seem to matter in shooting sports. Drop me a pm when you get out here if you like and we'll have some fun.
