Well I haven't seen any black stained AK furniture so I decided to do the furniture on one of my Romy kits. It's a black Minwax stain with a semi gloss clear. I just put the 2nd coat of clear on it this morning and still need to do a light sand and final coat.

I had to redo it cause the first time around I put too many coats of stain on it and used gloss clear. After I cleared it just looked almost solid black with a little wood color showing through and too glossy.

So this time around I did less and it looks way better. I also cut off the front grip as I hate the way they look.

Here are the pics. In the sun of each side, and in the shade of each side.

Yeah, I used that same stain on a Yugo SKS of mine and finished with BLO. Turned out nice...

I'm going to do my M70B furniture in BLO. What is the purpose of putting it over stain? I have never used it before so don't know much about it.

I wanted the color of the ebony stain and I like the flat, natural look of BLO, which is a traditional military finish. It doesn't add the protection of tung oil, but I'm not dragging my rifles through the muck.
