Hi guys,

My name is Ray. I don't have a firearm yet due to financial reasons and such, but I know that'll soon change, thinking of picking up a Glock 27 or a Rock Island Armory Officer's 1911. Maybe a Ruger SR40C...

Been into firearms for as long as I can remember. Been out to the shooting range a couple times and love it.

I have a question though. What does one need to be qualified/licensed in and such to even work at a firearms shop? I have quite a few around me and I sent them a message about it, but I'm not holding my breath on anything.

I don't have any prior military or law enforcement experience, but if there's still hope for me to go out there and be able to even work behind the counter of a gun shop, that would be quite amazing.

I'm sure there's quite a bit of pressure when it comes to dealing with military and law enforcement customers, but I know a bit here and there, but I don't know if it's remotely enough?

All I know is if ima work a 9-5 job, working with anything concerning firearms would be it.

Thanks.

Welcome, not sure of the requirements except for not being a fellon. Pretty sure if you are not prohibited from owning a gun you could work at a shop. There is an FFL sub forum you could ask in.

To work at a gunshop you need to be willing to work for close to minimum wage. That's about it. BTW, most LEOs and military personal have very little real firearms knowledge unless they also happen to shoot as a hobby.

Welcome. I think knowledge of firearms and people skills are important. I see a lot of threads talking about how gun store clerks are jerks. Could that be true?

Hope you enjoy the forums.

Yeah I kinda expected that people working at the gun counter don't get paid much, but I need a job anyways and whatever pays my bills and puts gas in the car works for me.

Wouldn't mind doing cleaning and maintenance work on firearms stuff either, I love precision work since i'm a huge OCD type of person.

I'd just like to get my foot in the door and hopefully even land a job working with firearms all day and not just being the guy standing behind the counter watching people buy firearms i'd love to own haha.

Thanks again for welcomes!

Howdy. As I understand it you would need to get a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to work in a gun store. I don't know if one size fits all or if there is a special COE for working in a gun store. As suggested the FFL section might be your best source.

I don't know where you are at but, in case there is one nearby, Turner's puts out a message every so often that they are hiring. Good luck.
