First tear your house, car, etc appart looking for it. Sometimes things get mislaid.

Then think about where you last went with the rifle in the car.

If you've exhausted all of your options and still haven't found it, try at least to think of where it must have been stolen from.

Then get the serial number from your records, and call it in.

I'm not sure how someone stole a rife from your car witout breaking in.... did you leave it unlocked? be carefull there might be legal ramifications for leaving a firearm unattended in a semi public place.

Im not sure if it was unlocked but sometimes my control will not lock my car when I press the lock button. but there are a couple of people I still need to question.

Are we serious here?!?!?!

Gotta be honest, this one bothers me. How do you go out with a gun and not know what you did with it? When I am out with guns, the first thing I do when I get home is unload them into the safe. SO, in the unlikely event I stopped for a bite to eat, even if my guns do get stolen without me knowing it right away (unlikely, I keep them in the trunk or back of the locked truck when traveling, not the back seat!! And if I know my remote doesn't work, I manually lock the doors and verify they are locked when I leave the car, even if there are no guns in the car), I'll know as soon as I get home.

Nobody has access to my guns but me. Not even my wife. Ain't about trust, about responsibility. My guns, my name attached to them, if harm comes to someone via my guns, it is my responsibility.

The kind of people who lose guns and don't realize it for days/weeks/months are the kind of people who should not own guns, as they do not have a grasp of the damage they can do. And you give the anti-gun clowns ammunition (pun intended) in their never ending crusade to show how bad guns are and how irresponsible gun owners are.

to go shooting at a private range our family owns,

Glad you found it.

But, I gotta ask - any memberships available? Is it in OC?

sounds like your cousin needs a swift butt-stroke to the head with the rifle he took without consent.

I'll bring the chili pot!

:D good thing you found it and you didnt have to file for your $1000 which could (more-less) replace your rifle and then some depending on what it was

What rifle was it?

was intended by my post, sorry if it came off as rude, but I am a firm believer in keeping the gun either in your possession or under lock & key in some sort of anchored structure at all times. First, there is the obvious issue of a gun falling into the wrong hands. Who wants to be responsible for that. Second, these things ain't cheap. Would you leave a Rolex in your car unattended? If yes, where do you park? I've always wanted a Rolex, but never wanted to spend that kind of money on something that doesn't go boom.

Now, does this get me invited to the range? I can bring a variety of guns, fun for all.

Kidding, I'm in the Bay Area, nowhere near OC.
