Got him in D16 Agua Tibia Wilderness on opening morning. I know he is small but after hearing all the unsuccessful stories about d16 I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to put meat in the freezer. When I shot he was about 100 yards away. I was using my trusty 30-30 with peep sights. Packing him out was a task of its own, about 1.5 miles up and down some hills.

Congrats! That's not an easy area to hunt. I can only imagine how tough it must have been to haul that deer out of there afterwords. Nice going!

Congrats on a successful hunt, good hard work pays off! What ammo did you use? I handloaded those Hornady flex tips for the .30-.30 but have a 2.5x scout scope on my rifle. Have used open sights since I moved from MO.

I'd make comments about finding bigger critters stuck on the glue traps behind my fridge, but I have never even seen a deer out here during deer season. In 12 years. Glad to know somebody actually got one. Great job. I have been out every morning and evening thus far and I haven't seen anything other than coyotes. Lots of coyotes.

I used factory loads Hornady flex tips. They sure do a lot of damage. I feel comfortable with open sights out to 200 yards.
