Hows it going out there CG community, brand new member here just want to introduce myself to everyone. Im a 29 year old guy who has been shooting for about 3 years now, so pretty new to the sport. Stumbled upon this site and decided to join, looking forward to learning some new things and hopefully meeting some like minded people. My collection so far consists of HK USP 9mm, Springfield XD 40, Remington 870 12ga, and my latest purchase a Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30.

Bought the Mosin and 440 rounds of old russian surplus ammo for about $250 and I cant wait to go shoot it, I have wanted to start shooting rifles and have heard that the Mosins are real cheap fun. Are there any other Mosin owners here that live in socal? Also since all the ranges down here dont allow you to shoot the old surplus ammo does anyone have a good spot where you go to shoot rifles, or are there any expereinced shooters out there willing to let a newbie join them?

Hi from the desert! For me, I am a memeber of the Palm Springs Gun Club, we have a 200+yd rifle range. I also have two mosins, made one into a PE sniper (my wifes) and one PU (mine).

You may look into getting a FFL 03 firearms license. Cheap, only about $30.00 for 3 years, and easy to get. You may won't other vintage rifles (or pistols though they have to go through a FFL 01 if bought in the state), plus you get a discount at Brownells, midway if you have a ffl.:)

Thanks for the reply LCU1670, so do you just shoot the mosins at the range only? Does the Palm Springs range allow the old Russian surplus ammo? If so thats not too bad of a drive for me. This is probally a dumb question to you but what does PU & PE stand for?

I am very interested in the class 3 ffl but this is the first time i have heard of it, so i dont know anything about it. Is this something that you need to take a class for or pass a test, can you please elaborate more on the ffl 3, also what requirements do you need to meet. What kind of discount do you get on ammo?

I have a Mosin. I wondered about PE and PU. I don't think it's working out and PU can't be bad smell. Just sayin.

Glad you could join us.
