For anyone interested in trying these chinese imitations: Here is a link to a company that sells the New Eotech clone and the ACOG clones also. I personally like to buy the real thing but sometimes my budget ain't as big as i would like. These might be nice to play with untill you can get the real thing:

The G&P ACOG clone is actually decent, I've heard of cases of people using it on their guns.

clone EOTECH is POS, it's just a red dot in an eotech housing

And those guns are so advanced that they dun even need gun powder or lead or copper.... they shoot out plastic balls....

isn't an eotech the same thing? red dot in a housing?

nope eotech had more than a red dot, it has a 65 MOA outer ring and a 1 MOA red Dot in the middle.

You don't get that "hologram" effect with the clones. :p

Not quite. It doesn't use the same technology for the optics. I actually posted a long explanation on this but it got deleted into the ether by accident...

The typical red-dot uses a dichroic mirror to reflect the red spot -- a fancy way of saying a filter (that's why it looks colored) that reflects only the red light. The Eotech uses a holographic plate which makes the incident light change its location and shape to the one you see. They're significantly different in how they work.

A friend of mine had an ACOG clone on his airsoft gun; the color seemed a bit off (it was gray instead of black like a real Trijicon) but looking at the reticle it looked just like the TA01NSN's during daylight. The only difference was it didn't turn yellow when I aimed in low-light condition.

That being said, even though the ACOG clone looked pretty real, I'll stick with my TA31F ;)

Not really... he's talking about optics. It's equally as legitimate to put it here as there. It's not like he's affiliated with them, that I'm aware of.

Are you going to go say this about every, "Check out the low price of XXX ammo at XXX?" Or say that in the thread about the $179 10/22's?

Teletiger,

Please don't pimp out for patent/trade dress violators. Besides, they're junk.

These scopes are likely here illegally: even if their internals are different, their 'trade dress' is stolen....

I was at the SHOT Show 2 yrs ago when Trijicon and its lawyers were handing NcStar its *** for their ACOG 'clones'.

Information on the Eotech 551 clone should be understoond before purchase of the clone. I sell this item in my store http://www.medinatradingpost.com
The main issue with the unit is the brightness. I believe that due to the fact that the LED must generate enough light to product the circle with dot, the reticle will bleed in bright sunlight. I do sell these to entry personnel that will be using them indoor or lower light. These bleed in bright sunlight and should not be used as such. the unit sights well and holds zero but will not produce enough light to see the retiicle in bright sunlight. Therefore be cautious before purchase of any of the eotech clone. Since the clone is currently only made be one manufacturer (unlike the aimpoint clone) This will be an issue with ALL of the eotech clones sold. Understand your usage before purchase of this item. We at Medina Trading Post want each customer to be happy with the products purchased and to get what they pay for.

Holy thread revive! This is what you get when you scold people for not searching :)

It's been more than a year now. How do you tell if you have a genuine Eotech or a fake? Reading this thread it looks like the fakes don't work too well in high lighting. I just bought one used. I'm pretty sure it's real but I'd like to double check.

If the reticle looks pixelated, like it's made up of small grainy dots, it's probably real. That's a sign that it's got an actual laser rather than an LED like most clones.

Sorry, but, "The main issue with the unit is the brightness." is a big NO. The main issue is the fake EOTechs are Red Dots in an EOTech case, while a real EOTech is a holographic image. Major difference my friend. You can not cover 99% of the optic and the image will "jump" to the clear 1% of the glass and still be 100% zerod to the target.

Take one of your fakes, and cover the lens facing you with your other hand. The image will stay where it is and you will see nothing.

Do this with a real EOTech and the image will jump to the remaining portion of the glass without you having to move your head. The image is recorded on every single spot on the glass in every single possible way. You can only see one of the images at a time.

How are the "clonepoints" holding up after a year

The biggest thing is finding one that is good. There are many variations

i have the airsoft eotech

i dont really see why this should be illegal it is a device intended for use on airsoft only not real guns its like the replica guns should the gun makers sue for copying the outer shape?

i bought mine

it takes 2 aaa's(but should take aa's) and the reticle grows as you back away from the sight its weird like a foot back the circle dot is huge about 5 inches away it seems ok its a reflected red dot its kind of neat how they were able to do that in that small area

it also kind of sits canted on the rail and the battery latch kind of hangs up and intrudes on the sight picture

i got mine off ebay form a buy it now with free shipping
i figured for $60 i'll risk it from china and it only took a week and paypal might protect me

i'm wishing i went for the airsoft acog cause it has the back up sights onboard

i sure as heck am not paying 400 for a 10/22 optic

i got some questions for real eotech owners

is the battery compartment metal?

how bright does it get?
on full brightness can you see it looking at a 60 watt lightbulb? 75 watt? 100watt?
is the reticle spotty like digital image?

The Eotech 552 battery cover is plastic.

Relative brightness is a hard thing to compare, and looking at a light doesn't work well, as the center of the light is too bright for much of any reticle to show against.

It's much easier to compare against, say, blue sky on a bright day, or noon sun on concrete. The Eotech (Rev F and beyond) is designed to work in arctic conditions (with lithium batteries), so the reticle is bright enough to see in bright sunlight reflected off snow, but most of us don't have that available.

With mine, you can't see the reticle against the bright blue sky when it turns on (setting 12). It's barely visible at setting 15, and is quite clear and usable at 20, the top setting. It's about the same against noon sun on concrete, though the concrete isn't super bright.

Interestingly, with the Eotech off, if you catch the sunlight just right (sun behind you, Eotech held at about a 45 degree angle, sun shining onto the mirror in the base), you can get a very bright but fuzzy reticle displayed from the sunlight reflecting into the hologram.

The reticle on a real one will be spotty due to laser speckle.

As for the reticle size change, the reticle's actually staying the same size (65 MOA for the outer ring), but it subtends more or less of the viewport as you move it out or in. Find something that the circle fits around and move the sight in or out, and you'll see that the reticle stays the same size relative to what you're looking at, but changes relative to the sight itself, as it must.

I would think either an Eotech or Acog look-alike would be too high for a 10/22, which normally has the optic closer to the bore. I'd consider putting the Konus Atomic Pro or one of the other T1 look-alikes on a 10/22.

any link for one

so i know what to look for

The first two are both recommended:

Primary Arms (non-removable base) - out of stock on the micro, keep an eye out, but they have other good quality red dot look-alikes:
http://primaryarms.com/category.sc?categoryId=5

Konus (removable base with a bit of tweaking) - out of stock, backorder OK, other people might have it:
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=318955

Here's a thread on the Konus:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=180139

These are a gamble - no data:
ebay look-alikes - risky due to uncertain warranty, customer support, who knows who made them - they may be the same as the Konus or Primary, or may not:
