Damnit! Ammo is so freaking cheap. [/rant]

there is/was. Alexander arms made a few uppers in what they called .21 Ghengis, which is their name for 5.45x39.

Do you think you could build one from having a barrel chambered in 5.45x39 and using a 7.62x39 bolt?

It doesn't look like Alexander sell the .21 Ghengis anymore, but we'll see what they say to my email.

They never responded to my question about the .21, so hopefully you have better luck. IIRC, the 5.45 isn't actually the same bolt face as the 7.62 is...but I'm not sure.

It requires a different bolt. AA stopped making them a while back, not enough interest. Now it appears as though Teppo Jutso is going to be making them soon:

5.45x39 uses a smaller bolt face than 7.62x39.

I have made a couple as well.
The people who want them want them for the cheap ammo.
By definition, these people are cheapskates.
Cheapskates don't like to pay the price of custom barrels.

It's a "rock and hard place" sort of problem...

Haha... True. However, I'd much rather spend $600 for a custom upper that shoots cheap ammo rather than $300 for an upper that shoots more pricey ammo.

How much for the uppers, and what mags do you guys use.
