Has anyone tried one of these conversion kits for 7.62 in your ar15? Curious about how they perform, thanks!

Not sure about reliability, however I will say that the photo they show in correlation sure doesn't look like a magazine for 7.62X39, unless it feeds the cartridges vertically!! :D

Mags are still the problem with 7.62x39 in the AR-15.
There are no reliable 7.62x39 AR-15 mags currently available.

What about the AR-47?

I found another kit, not sure if mags will work, but it has the a3 upper and mags listed at Del Ton

Those are the 10 round MGW plastic 7.62x39 mags.
I have one I can show you.
They are supposed to work, but they sure don't look/feel very well made.

Plastic  That can't be good.

How do they fit in the mag well? Just curious if they actually even fit in an AR?

Plastic  That can't be good.

Plastic certainly CAN be used to make great mags.
Reference the Canadian military using Thermolds, the Isrealis using Orlites and the recent Magpul Pmags which ARE excellent mags by all accounts.

I have a couple of handguns with plastic frames that withstand a lot more stress than AR mags.

Isn't the issue that the angle of the case body of 7.62x39 causes feed problems from non-curved mags?

Would it require a change to the magwell on the AR platform to ensure reliable feeding? Or would improvements to the feed lips, follower and springs in the mags be sufficient.

Yes, but you can get 5-8 rounds to work fine in a straight mag.

Yes, one that accepts an AK mag is best (AR47 or MGI)

No, not enough to make more than 5-8 rounds work good.
C Products TRIED and is now starting over supposedly.

Hmmm, thats funny, I've never had a problem with mine (MWG) I love my 7.62x39 upper, it shoots great!

I agree the plastic MWG mags aren't "cool" but they work. I think Colt makes steel mags but you may have trouble finding them and will pay a premium.

Those MWG or MGW plastic mags are crap. Yeah plastic mags CAN be good, but not those ones. I had 2 and threw them away after the first time i used them. I have 5 USA Magazines 10 round mags and they are metal with a rubber bottom. They have worked 100% of the time for me and and very well made.

They work 100% for me.

I like them because they are metal and feel more "real". That's just me

You just missed it, I just sold my upper on Saturday. I did not have a chance to shoot it, but I loaded the colt magazine (only holds 5 rounds) and it manually cycled fine. I heard a rumor that the 7.62x39 uppers in general have a hard time cycling steel cased ammo, the guy I got mine from said he had that problem, but brass cased ammo would work fine.

Okay, so here's my Colt upper/Stag lower 7.62 fully snapped together:

Got some USA mags for it, and since they are just 10-rounders, I went with a bullet-button setup.
Can't wait to try her out with the Prvi brass ammo I got from AIM.

There is always 300 Whisper.

http://www.quarterbore.com/300whisper/index.html

Text below from link above.

"Upper" receivers for the AR-15/M-16 made by SSK utilize 100% AR-15/ M-16 parts with the exception of the 30-caliber barrel and gas system. The gas system may be a fixed system which operates the weapon normally or an adjustable four position system which incorporates a cut off for very silent operation in the suppressed sub-sonic mode, a port which develops a rate of fire in full auto of about 750 RPM, another for operation under dirty conditions to assure reliability and another special purpose port. Pulling the pins and replacing the original "upper" unit with the SSK WhisperŽ unit converts the AR-15/M-16 to 30 caliber. Standard M-16 magazines are used. Accuracy, power and control of the weapon in full auto sub-sonic mode is simply unmatched by any other weapon of this type. In sub-sonic sub-machine gun mode, it far exceeds any other similar purpose sub-machine gun cartridge and weapon system.
