I wanted to make my precision "PSG-1" somewhat lighter so I just sold my DPMS 24" upper for a RRA 20" predator Persuit match upper. All I need to do is swap out the VX-1 for a VX-II 6-18x40 AO Target whenever it arrives. What do you all think of this 2K investment?

Its Pentazemin now, get with the times! And one more thing, Pentazemin definitely does not cure sea sickness!

wtf. Diazepam is to relax the muscles when your trying to squeeze off that 2500 yard shot. Snake used to shoot it when he was trying to kill Sniper Wolf.............I love those games

That is a very nice looking rifle. Since you did the upper change to save weight, can you tell us how much you saved? And how much does the rifle weigh now?

that thing looks mean..I saw a pic of a ar10 that looked just like that a long time ago. I like that design.:)

My old configuration weighed 20 lbs with the previous 24" upper and loaded 10 rnd mag. The last upper was fluted, which did save some weight but it was still a beast. The thing kicked like a .22lr at the bench. The current config weighs in at 13 lbs with the shorter barrel. The new barrel may look thin but you only see the last 6 inches of barrel. Everything under the FF tube is mondo thick. Still, its a definite weight savings I like. I reallly liked having the 24 inch upper but 20 inches makes a dramatic weight savings that I prefer. The 20 inch barrel will still carry me out to 500 yards with lethality for varmint hunting so I'm golden. This is unrelated but the actual PSG-1 is supposedly limited to 600 yards due to the scope in came with. The scope had issues with the built in laser-rangfinder and the reticle did things to limit distance. However, the PSG-1A1 has a new scope on it that maximizes long range tac driving.

I hope they bring back the PSG-1 for MGS-4. I'd settle for an sniped-up HK-417 though. :D

Sweet setup Clark! :punk:

What's the stock that you have used for that rifle?

I use the Magpul PRS stock with an accu-shot PRM monopod.

I've verified the upper at .75 MOA at 100 yards!

Great to hear it's performing well as expected! What's the load that you have used?

Federal American Eagle .223 FMJBT 55gr. I forgot the monopod today so I used a rolled towel to support the stock. It was really hot today at my range and the sun took a lot out of me. I was shaking like mad towards the end of my shooting session but while I was fresh the groups were 1 MOA or less.

You go tthose groups with america eagle ammo?!?
Try some black hills and I bet they will shrink even more.

This is unrelated but the actual PSG-1 is supposedly limited to 600 yards due to the scope in came with. The scope had issues with the built in laser-rangfinder and the reticle did things to limit distance. However, the PSG-1A1 has a new scope on it that maximizes long range tac driving.

The original PSG1 did not have a laser rangerfinder in its 6x42 Hensoldt scope. It did have an illuminated reticle, but there are many problems with the rechargeable batteries (finding them, charging them.) Even when they were charged often times the illuminated reticle would not function. The 600 M range limitation was due to the scope being a 6x with a simple duplex reticle (no mil dots) while fine for a police countersniper duties, were often found to be insufficient for other users (military).

The new PSG1A1 comes equipped with a Schmidt and Bender 3-12x50 that will lend itself much better to longer range shooting.

Back to the AR15s, I am wondering how your last 24" AR weighed in at 20 lbs? My current 24 inch bull barrel setup just like yours, PRS, glass, and bipod, weighs in at 15lbs loaded. Guess I got lucky and was spared the extra 5lbs.

Not to diss you or your rifle, but I wouldn't really attribute any of the non MOA groups you shot with AE223 to the heat or your shaking. That ammo isn't really meant for tight groups. If you shoot higher round count groups (5 or more) you will see that the inconsistencies in the ammo will show themselves. More often than not, shooting sub-MOA with non match ammo is the luck of getting a few consistent rounds in the string.

With surplus Radway Green, Id be lucky to hit 3 MOA 10 round groups out of mine, but 30% of the time I can get 3 consecutive rounds to squeeze in under half an inch. I would definitely not advertise my rifle with Radway Green to be a .5MOA combo. However, it will shoot 5-10 round groups .8-1MOA with heavier Black Hills all day long with my eyes closed

"Brothers!" As much as I hate the PS3, if MGS4 is exclusive to it, I'm getting it.

That rifle is sweet.
